Christmas is almost here and for many of us that means it’s time for a getaway. Boyeah!

Hold up. First things first. You need to pack your suitcase. While your final destination is on your mind, working out what to pack can be frustrating, yet absolutely necessary unless you are planning on staying at a Naturalists Resort.

Don’t worry, I have a few tips to help you out. Here are 5 Suitcase Hacks that Everybody Should Know.

1. Use sandwich bags

Those plastic sealable bags are genius. Put your bathroom items in them to stop spill or leaks. Plus, if you need to pack your containers away for your next adventure, it doesn’t matter if they are still slightly wet from your earlier shower. Also use them for your jewellery, hair ties and clips, loose change and storing little knick knacks you purchase along the way.

2. Roll don’t fold

One of the best tricks is to roll your clothes. Fold them in half and roll. Not only will you have more room in your bag but it helps reduce wrinkles n your favourite items.

3. Plan your days

Over packing is a common problem. For some reason we have an absolute fear that we are going to forget something. The best way is to have an idea of your itinerary and pack accordingly. Work out what you need and only take what is important. No doubt you will buy a few things when you’re away.

4. Mix and Match

This goes hand in hand with the above tip. Create outfits and utilise one piece in several ways. For instance take one jacket and wear it with everything. Versatility is key to a smaller suitcase. Lay out all of your options so you can see what you have and what will work with what.

5. Bag it

Love the sandwich bags but what if you have bigger stuff that you need to keep separate? Go for large plastic bags or my preference, canvas reusable ones. Store your shoes in them, protect your hair styling tools and take a couple of extra so I can put your dirty washing in them during your holiday. They also come in handy for that impromptu shopping trip or for carrying a bottle of water, your towel and magazine down to the pool.

I hope that helps — happy holidays!
