As the summer heat begins to dull and gorgeous autumn days replace the searing 40 degree weather that Adelaide has been experiencing recently, it’s also time for a change in hair trends.

Summer was all about the blunt bob, with textured layers and beachy curls but as autumn approaches, we look toward a new trend; hair extensions.

While hair extensions may come across as being dauntingly high maintenance and hard to style, with the added risk of looking two-toned, ratty or just plain bad, there are plenty of ways to protect, maintain and style extensions to ensure that they look natural and full in between salon visits.

At Fresh Hair & Body, we use Remy Hair Extensions, sourced from the United States and made from 100% European hair, they are the highest quality locks available on the market. They are gorgeous to style and can last up to 12 months if they are looked after correctly, while they also go completely undetected in your natural hair.

BUT…Never fear, if your locks are from elsewhere you can still follow our guide to keeping them healthy with a stylish flair as we take you through the top tips for strengthening, maintaining and styling your hair extensions….

MAINTAINING YOUR MANE

What you will need:

:: Soft bristle hairbrush

:: Low pH/High moisturising shampoo and conditioner

:: Comb

The cleaning process:

:: Brush your hair thoroughly prior to washing, to make sure that you remove and knots and/or tangles

:: Following this, wet your hair as normal under the shower head

:: Apply conditioner to the extensions prior to washing to help maintain moisture levels

:: Apply shampoo on top of the already conditioned extensions and wash gently

:: Rinse thoroughly, making sure that all shampoo and conditioner has been washed out of the hair

:: Apply a moisturising conditioner

:: Rise thoroughly

:: Wrap a towel around your hair and allow the moisture to be absorbed, avoid rubbing the towel through hair to dry

:: Comb carefully to work through any knots and tangles that may have formed while washing

:: Allowing hair to air-dry is usually best if possible to avoid breakage and damage from heat, never sleep with wet hair as this will cause tangles

Braids

Braids are a great way to remain stylish, while also looking after and securing your hair to ensure that fly away’s are a thing of the past (you could even hit the gym and have a nap before heading out for drinks and you would look equally as glamorous). If you or your bestie struggle to perfect braids (they can be quite tricky) then you can always head to one of our nine Adelaide salon locations for braids at just $25.
