Autumn racing is well and truly creeping up on us, with Adelaide Cup been and gone in early March (we like to think of this as the teaser for the Easter Races) it’s time to seriously start thinking about wardrobe updates and the hottest trends for the upcoming season, with a huge part of that being hair and makeup of course!

The spring races were all about statement dresses and beautiful bright pops of colour, and natural makeup with complimentary additions of bright lipstick to make heads turn.

Coming into autumn, we predict subtler tones with nudes, pastels and whites to take centre stage along with darker colours for those races taking place in the cooler months with fresh dewy makeup, smoky eyes and dark or nude lips to compliment the look.

Of course, statement headpieces or if you go without, trendy and exciting hairstyles, will be at the centre of each look. Your clutch should match your headpiece in order to tie in your shoes (which should be comfortable and worn in to avoid the tacky, shoes in hand at the end of the day) and then your beauty look will pull it all together. It can be super hard to decide what you want to wear and to decide on the hair/makeup look best suited to you (let’s remember that it’s a day event and should be treated as a marathon not a sprint, so super heavy contouring and OTT hair sprayed locks are a big no no) so let us do the research for you, just relax and read on!

Braided crowns

Statement headpieces not for you? Don’t sweat it, this doesn’t make your look ‘boring’ instead, we have creative alternatives such as the crown braid to give your race look an exciting flair.

Book in at any of our nine Adelaide based locations and have one of our stylists create a braided crown for you.

Price: approximately $65

Dewy makeup

Day wear make up should be dewy, light and fresh, remember you are going to the races, not a club on a Saturday night.

Keep your look fresh and well primed with rosy pinks and just a touch of gold bronzer. Highlighter is always great for giving your skin a little lift and giving you a glamorous, but not over the top look for day events.

A nude lip as pictured is always great for low maintenance day wear, particularly if you are drinking and eating throughout the event, but if you want to make a bold statement, switch in a moody dark lipstick to compliment the season.

Slick ponytail

The slick ponytail (both high and parted like Olivia’s here) are great for race day if you want something simple that will cause you little to no fuss during the day, particularly if the wind picks up.

Team ponytails with statement neckpieces, which tie the look together creating a glamorous, but not over the top look perfect for a day at the races.
