DECOR

Remember a little design shop in the late ’90s, called Design Domain? It was bright, fun and colourful. Well, The Loose Caboose is exactly that. There are multicoloured chairs dotted around the dining area and courtyard, potted succulents as table centrepieces and throw rugs on seats to keep you warm. I absolutely love the look of this place! You can plant your bum on a coloured stool and have bench meal, or, choose from an array of different chairs and tables, inside and out. They may be called The Loose Caboose, but their service is anything but. They run a very tight ship. We were well looked after and our orders didn’t take long at all.

FOOD

Smashed avocado with watermelon radish, feta, beetroot puree, lemon, herb-crusted poached free-range eggs on toasted sourdough. Oh my god — amazing! My friend had the stewed apple porridge with vanilla bean mascarpone and cinnamon crumble ($14). Seriously, their food is as good as the decor. And they have an ALL-DAY BRUNCH MENU. So much to choose from and very well priced too. Their coffees and chai lattes are also marvellous! The Loose Caboose sources coffee beans ethically, through their direct relationships with coffee growers. And there’s no such thing as chai syrup at The Loose Caboose. Their chai tea is made with delicious spices and milk the way you like it, skinny.

KID-FRIENDLY?

Yes and no. Yes, there’s loads of space for prams and highchairs. It’s bright and as colourful as a bunch of crayons. But, there’s only one problem… STAIRS! I had to pull my pram (with baby strapped in) up the stairs and into the main area. If there’s two of you, it’s fine. But it is a little difficult to negotiate if you have a pram, multiple kids and a giant handbag (like I do). With that said, I managed and I’m so glad I did. I absolutely loved it!

Re the pram thing….I’m pretty sure I’ve been there when they’ve opened up a ‘platform’ door for pram/wheelchair customers
