AUDREY AND ALFIE

So, I have a vintage chair. I have no idea where it came from, but it belonged to my brother Ryan, and this month it will be 5 years since he passed away. His chair, which we call, “Ryan” has been sitting in our bedroom for just under 5 years. I’m really protective when anyone sits on it – it’s God-awful to look at, but it was my brother’s and he loved it. I know it sounds silly, but I  want to keep it in my family and in my house, so it’s like he will move with us from house to house and be able to watch my kids (his nephews) grow, and probably climb all over it.

But because, like I said, it’s GOD-AWFUL to look at, I wanted to get it re-upholstered. So, I googled around and came across SA’s Alfie & Audrey – appropriate because my son’s name is also Alfie – it was meant to be.

I loooove their work – their style – their passion. I’m yet to get “Ryan” covered, but while I’m thinking (and over-thinking) about what colours to go with, I thought I’d share this find with you.

Let me introduce you to the creator of SA’s Alfie & Audrey, Ruth Basey.

Her passion for reinventing vintage furniture with a timeless yet modern twist is so inspiring, and her work is absolutely beautiful! Audrey & Alfie specialise in vintage chairs and turning them into one-off pieces.

“We use a range of high quality fabrics, selected and perfectly matched to each chair design, breathing new life into the chair with each and every loving stitch,” says Ruth.

Alfie & Audrey chairs are like a piece of art – the hero of a room. If you have an old chair, foot stool or couch, don’t bin it, re-invent it and turn it into a piece of art!

You’ll find Alfie & Audrey at the Bowerbird Bazaar design markets twice a year.

FAVE PLACE TO TAKE THE KIDS

My husband Denton & I love to take our three boys Owen 6, Elliott 5 & Sullivan 3 to the Adelaide Zoo. The boys love the freedom to decide their own path throughout the Zoo exhibits, generally starting with the reptiles and ending up the excellent new kid’s playground at the days end.

FAVE PLACE FOR BREAKFAST

It is no secret amongst my friends that I can’t go past a breakfast BLAT from Bond & Lane Canteen, Colonel Light Gardens.

FAVE SHOPPING STRIP

I love to shop — that is one thing I’m certain of in life, but since having my three boys retail therapy is now only a distant memory. Now days I guess I mainly like to shop biannually at the Bowerbird Bazaar design market where I exhibit my own bespoke chairs. It’s a three day event and jam packed with everything local & hand made from Adelaide finest designer makers plus heaps of brilliant designers from around Australia. This event covers everything from fashion, jewellery, clothing & textiles, artwork, accessories, homewares, body & soul, kids, stationary and of course furniture, lighting + Garden. The next market is Nov 25-27!
