Singer, artist, fashionista, entrepreneur, marketer, business owner, designer, beautiful girl. These are words I use to describe Victor Harbor’s Emma Gilbert. Oh, and I forgot to mention, she’s ALL that and ONLY twenty-two.
As a side project to her full time job in marketing, Emma created her own business, Gilbert & Co. Homewares, selling colourful, coastal inspired homewares, art and fashion. We first spotted her in her hot pink caravan on Instagram – we knew by the colour that she was our kind of girl!
Her warm and cheerful personality comes out in her work. She designs stylish kaftan-like dresses (which I couldn’t help but buy), unique statement jewellery, colourful vases, platters and bowls, woven baskets, floor cushions, quilts and throw rugs – all amazing.
An artist at heart, Emma also lovingly restores small and large furniture items and sells her own contemporary canvas art, one of which now hangs in my home. To be honest, soon she’ll have nothing to sell, because it will ALL be in my house!
“The best thing about working and living on the Fleurieu Peninsula is the funky vibe, with cool upcoming cafes, retail stores, and markets on the foreshore which constantly encourage my creative streak and passion for my community,” she says. And she’s spot on, her shop is right next door to one of my other fave Port Elliot delights – De Groot Coffee Co.
Anyway, let’s get back to Emma. This smiley, super smart and sassy lady is this week’s Inspirational Adelady.
When visiting Port Elliot, you should most definitely pop in and visit Emma & her team! Gilbert & Co. Homewares is a hidden gem tucked away along the Fleurieu Peninsula coastline.

Fave coffee in Victor
I’m super dooper boring and don’t drink coffee but I’m a sucker for a good Chai, and the best place to get your fix is from the old Yilki Deli along the Esplanade of Encounter Bay. You can’t bet the good old fashion service of Ash and the crew!

They even do a super dooper huge size called a BUCKET which is totally the best pick me up after a big weekend 😉
Fave brekky cafe in Victor
The best place hands down is Cockles in Port Elliot for Brekky! The Smashed Avo is always a winner! It’s the best spot to sit and socialise whilst watching the hussle and bustle in little Ol’ Port Elliot town. The owners have done such a fantastic job with the on-trend dishes and a funky fit-out of the Cafe. If you and the girls want to stay and gasbag then most definitely order the Nasi Goreng, trust me the wait will be totally worth it! This is my most favourite dish in the whole world!

Fave hidden gem in Victor
It’s not really a hidden gem, but RAW Wholefoods have waaaayyy to many delish products for their own good! You can find me most lunch breaks, sneaking up that end of the street to replenish my office stash with some of their yummy snacks (some being healthy, if my PT is reading!) My fave being the chocolate raspberries/bullets.

Fave fish and chips in Victor
Well to be honest everyone down here does great fish & chips! But with the abundance of seafood just at our finger tips I love heading out in the boat and catching it fresh! You can’t bet heading out and snagging something, which for me is usually the seaweed type. This is just one of the amazing perks of living down here if you love seafood!
Go and pop into her shop at The Joinery @ Shed 8, Factory 9, Cnr Hill St and Waterport Rd, Port Elliot and follow Emma on social:
