Are you looking for the ultimate Barossa food experience? To be fed like a Barossan? To dine Barossa style? Then remember the name Harvest Kitchen where a long lunch is an absolute must. For those who are yet to experience this relatively new Barossa dining experience, I implore you to hurry up and book a table today! You won’t be disappointed.

Harvest Kitchen is at the top of my list when it comes to my favourite place to eat in the Barossa, but it’s not just because of the incredible food and wine…. No this place has views that go on forever, a buzzing atmosphere and the added bonus is it’s kid friendly too! It’s a winner on all levels for this Barossan!!

Located just outside of Tanunda with sweepings views across the Valley Floor, Harvest Kitchen is becoming a Barossa institution thanks to its communal menu that complements the wines from the Artisans of Barossa cellar door.

THE FOOD ::

At Harvest Kitchen, it’s all about seasonal produce! The menu is not overly large, but there’s certainly an abundance of choices that will make it difficult to make a decision, which is why the Feed Me Like A Barossan option is a must! Think a selection of seasonal shared dishes … perfectly timed and just the right size to leave you satisfied. It’s the best option to experience Harvest Kitchen’s favourite dishes.

Our first plate was a simple and delicate cured vegetable dish featuring beetroot the colours of the rainbow (well almost) along with cauliflower and onions. It’s hard to believe something that looks so simple on the plate, could be so delicious and delicate. A great way to start the Harvest Kitchen experience.

This was followed by a hommus dip with flatbread (they also do a gluten free flatbread option – winning again!). The hommus was flavoursome, creamy and the perfect lead in to the next plates, including a roasted beetroot salad with feta and horseradish and one of my personal favourites, the ancient grain salad with vache curd!! This salad packs a punch and

With our taste buds still singing in delight from the ancient grain salad, the next plate was placed on our table. Spiced and smoked chicken with harissa yoghurt (this was the gluten free option- it is normally served as crispy fried chicken). This dish was delicious, with just the right amount of smoke on the tender chicken and the perfect amount of heat in the harissa yoghurt to leave a nice little hum in your mouth.

By now, you’re feeling pretty happy – the food has been fresh, flavoursome and oh so moorish, the wine a perfect match for the cuisine and you’re starting to feel pretty content, but there’s still more to come.

The final savoury dish was a vermouth and dill cured salmon with pickled kohlrabi and fresh horseradish. This was definitely my favourite meal. It was so delicate, and fresh but at the same time bursting with so much flavor. A great dish to cleanse the palate before the infamous Harvest Kitchen dessert, which is a piece of resistance in itself!! Just watch the eager stares of other dining patrons as dessert is brought out, and people stare in awe as the salted caramel sundae with caramel popcorn arrives at the table!! Decadent, rich, salty and sweet all in one!!! If you have chosen to dine with your kids, my advice would be to order a dessert for them too, this will avoid any in-family fights about who got more ice cream, and trust me this is one dish you don’t want to miss out on.

For those who don’t have a sweet tooth, the second dessert of an apple and yoghurt pannacotta with poached rhubarb is on a par with the ice cream I think. It’s mellow, slightly tart and the panacotta is over the top smooth and creamy!! For me this won bragging rights over the salted caramel sundae.

At the end of a long Harvest Lunch, you can guarantee your tummy will be full, your taste buds happy and you’ll be checking your diary to see how soon you can come back again.

THE WHOLE PACKAGE ::

This Miss Barossa gives the entire Harvest Kitchen experience, including food, wine and atmosphere a 9/10!! The alfresco dining and kid-friendly atmosphere, coupled with food that is out of this world, and top notch wines, make this a winning combination. If I could I would eat there every day of the week J, in fact now both my boys are at school I don’t really have an excuse not to make it my regular lunch hangout.

Harvest Kitchen boasts that their food and dining experience is generous, wholesome and flavoursome… and who am I to disagree. If you’re still not convinced, check out their Instagram page for images of their food that will leave you drooling over your screen!!

Oh and if you weren’t aware, Harvest Kitchen is run by Masterchef contestant Tracy Collins and business partner, sommelier Pete Little (who made us feel very welcome on our recent dining experience).
