I don’t know about you, but coming up to Christmas I am hankering for a break. My body and brain are fried and last week I found myself at breaking point.

I sat on a bench in Rundle Mall and cried.

Not your average cry that can be covered by your sunglasses. I mean a big, fat, ugly cry where people look and genuinely feel sorry for you. For me, I have the problem of putting everyone else first. In no particular order: work, friends, partner, people I’ve met once, my neighbours cat. Then myself!

There wasn’t one significant thing that tipped me over the edge. I just felt like I had the world on my shoulders and I didn’t know how I was going to get through the next couple of weeks, especially as work is very crazy right now. So as I sat on the bench, I had an epiphany. I needed to do something for me. Turn the phone off, emails off and genuinely do something that was good for my soul. So I did.

Here are the three things I did to bring me back to earth, make me feel calm and helped me to get ready to take on THE WORLD. Unfortunately, they’re not free. In saying that, investing money in your health and wellbeing, is money well spent!

1. Spoil yourself with a Facial and Massage

I walked into Jurlique at Burnside and had a half hour facial and massage. Normally I don’t do this sort of stuff, I worry about spending the money but I swear — it’s worth it. No talking or stressing about work. Just me. It was Heaven.

2. Spoil yourself with an overnight stay at a hotel

I stayed the night at the @intercontinental. I only live two streets away from the hotel but there is something magical about staying in a hotel room. It just screams ‘YOU’RE ON A HOLIDAY — SO RELAX’. I had a long bath, followed by a glass of champagne and proceeded to sit in my fluffy white robe for hours.

3. Spoil yourself by going out to dinner

What do you do on holidays? You go out for dinner. So I did. Talk about being a tourist in your own town. I walked one hundred meters to Sean’s Kitchen and the food was amazing. I definitely felt like I was holidays as the diet was completely out the window. I had the crab linguini. Ah-mazing!

I hope that you can find the time to do something for yourself now and again. Don’t let yourself get to breaking point because life is too short. If you let yourself get rundown then you won’t be able to cope and your life as you know it will blow up before you eyes. You could lose everything!

If you can recharge even just once a month, I swear it will make the biggest difference and you’ll get your Beyonce “fierce” mojo back. Who runs the world? I do!

How do you unwind and recharge yourself?

I was in Rundle Mall last week- if I’d seen you I would stopped to have had a chat 🙂
All good ideas listed but I find just having a catch up (over dinner, wine or even a quickish coffee) with a friend while the kids play and keep each other amused is a cheap and useful option.

Wow how timely. Just had a convo with my hubby how a 3/10 stressor feels like a 7/10 one because everything has built up. Your solution sounds wonderful! Will book a facial this week!
