Since having my boys, I’ve been making my way around SA’s playgrounds like a kid in a candy store! And man, have playgrounds come along way since I was a wee tacker, when a plastic slippery dip and a creaky spinning wheel was all we needed. Now, it’s all about nature play, all-inclusive equipment and special sensory activities.
Just a teeny tiny walk from the Main Street in Angaston, you’ll find the Barossa Adventure Station. Five years in the making, the Barossa locals are grinning from ear to ear with their new addition. Kids from all over SA will be bee-lining for this playground because it is sensational!
Suitable for kids of all ages and abilities — toddlers to teens to adults, there’s something for everyone. You can lol your way down the giant slide and feel the wind in your hair on the flying fox, or make multi-level waterfalls with their water pump. The wild 1km mountain bike trail is set to be a drawcard for the thrill-seekers, and the in-ground trampolines have been purpose-built so that people in wheelchairs can join in the fun too. My favourite part? The Forest Poles. This is a full sensory experience with nine poles emitting audio, so you feel like you’re in the middle of nature walking through. And they are all painted in special UV paint so at night, they light up!
Located in Angaston, you can spend your day at the playground and then mosey on down to the main street and try a tea and cheese flight at Barossa Valley Cheese Company, or loosen your belt and settle in for homemade authentic Italian pasta at Casa Carboni. And if you love a great coffee shop, Hive Barossa is a must!
So kids, what are you WAITING FOR? Bring your bike, your scooters and a spare change of clothes because you are bound to have one hell of a time!
I’ll see you on the Flying Fox!
