Throwback to November 2022 — Josh O’Shaughnessy was overseeing a struggling hospo venue on Goodwood Road when he found inspiration in a Netflix show, which featured an arcade-themed restaurant. He caught up with mates, Nathan Walton and Cesar Federici, two blokes entrenched in the arcade and pinball rental business. They yarned over a beer and Flipside Barcade was born.
Gaming goodness
Flipside is the dream den for gamers, home to classics like Daytona, NBA Jam and Mortal Kombat. Daytona’s multiplayer car racing is a crowd-puller, but it’s impossible to top their Super Nintendo booths — they’re pure nostalgia!
Pinball parties
Every fortnight, Flipside becomes the base for pinball tournaments. For 25 bucks you can get in on the action, compete for glory and maybe snag a winner’s case of beer. Nintendo 64 and arcade competitions are fan faves too, with regulars eager to return every couple of weeks.
Nostalgic nibbles
Think American classics to fit the theme, but with a gourmet twist. Wagyu beef burgers, gluten-free fried chicken and vegan delights are all on the menu, and the monthly specials will keep your tastebuds guessing. It’s a foodie adventure on top of the gaming fun!
Bangin’ bar
Flipside’s bar game is nothing to scoff at either. On tap, you’ll find Coors American Lager, craft brews, alcoholic ginger beer and Chubby Unicorn Hard Lemonade. You’ll also find locally sourced wines and gins, and even a cocktail menu of all the classics — feeling thirsty?
Function fever
Planning an event? Flipside’s got you sorted with private function packages featuring arcades, pinball, munchies and drinks to boot. From bucks’ shows to kids’ parties, they’ll make sure to put the perfect shindig together for any age group and occasion.
Flipside Barcade isn’t your typical hangout; it’s the only licensed venue in Adelaide where you’ll find arcade games AND pinball machines. “What we’ve created with Flipside is a venue that’s relaxed and inviting for everyone — families, groups of teens and adults alike,” says Josh.
