Grab your grape-stomping boots and pack the kiddos into the car.

We’re off on a wine-filled adventure to some of South Australia’s finest family-friendly wineries. Say goodbye to stuffy tasting rooms and hello to a world where parents sip, swirl and savour while the little ones frolic through vineyards and get to enjoy their own mini-me tasting experiences. We’re here to show you that you don’t need to ditch the kids to partake in a great cellar door experience.

Kimbolton Wines

One of our faves of all time: Kimbolton Wines in Langhorne Creek! The cellar door is perfectly positioned to take advantage of the sweeping views across the family-owned vineyards and the upstairs viewing deck feels like a home among the gum trees!

Adults can indulge in a wine and cheese flight while the kids have a choice of two different tasting flights — savoury or sweet, both of which come with activity packs. For parents of four-legged kids, this cellar door welcomes pooches as well! If you need another reason to visit, Kimbolton Wines is committed to raising funds for animal conservation, with part proceeds of The Cheetah Wine being donated to saving cheetahs in their natural habitat.

Main & Cherry Wines

Only a 30-minute drive from Adelaide, at the gateway to the Fleurieu Peninsula, sits Main & Cherry, an accessible winery that promotes family fun in the most delightful way. Picture this: parents lounging on a picnic rug with a glass of pinot noir in hand while the kids play on the sprawling lawns overlooking the Gulf of St Vincent.

Adults are invited to enjoy wines by the glass or take part in an educated wine flight. But don’t worry, you won’t find anyone swilling with their noses in the air… the cellar door experiences are very casual and open to wine novices and aficionados alike!

The in-house chef has designed a tapas menu for the whole family to share and there are a couple of options for kids’ nibble-platters to suit even the fussiest little diners. It’s a dreamy setting for a whole lot of family-friendly fun, with lawn games on offer, such as quoits, Finska and Cornhole, plus table games such as Jenga and Uno.

Main & Cherry gets the kids off their devices, partaking in some good old- fashioned family bonding instead. Add live music every weekend and you’ve got yourself the perfect grape escape for the whole fam!

Kies Family Wines

This winery overlooking the Lyndoch Ranges in the Barossa Valley welcomes families with open arms at their cellar door and cafe — playfully named Monkey Nut Cafe. With enclosed lawns and outdoor games, this winery provides a backdrop for year-round fun.

While mum and dad indulge in a wine flight to sample Kies’ award-winning Cabernet Sauvignon or Shiraz, younger family members can dive into a kids’ platter box, which includes cheese, dried fruit, pretzels and mettwurst. Paired with a fruit box to wash it down and ice cream for dessert, there won’t be any complaints from the little adventurers.

There’s often a colouring competition for kids to get involved in and the milkshakes are next level… YUM! And when the kids need to burn off some energy, there’s a beautiful pine tree on the property just begging to be climbed!
