Find gastronomical vibes behind a corner store guise at Local Crowd.
She’s the go-to brekky, brunch and coffee haunt for the residents of Colonel Light Gardens, but it’s not just the locals flocking to Local Crowd. Set on a corner amongst the wide leafy streets in a historic 1920s butcher shop, there’s something truly charming about this quaint suburban gem. Don’t let those old-worldly vibes fool you though — the food here is way ahead of its time!
Here are three reasons why everybody loves this local hang-out:
1. The food
Undoubtedly the hero of Local Crowd, the food tastes as good as it looks — and that’s saying something! Their head chef, Landon Roomes, meticulously balances the flavours and textures of his dishes and has an extraordinary flair for presentation. He’s able to turn a simple brekky dish into something you’ll feel compelled to admire for a few minutes before digging in! Think garnishes of fresh herbs, toasted seeds, pickled vegetables, pops of fruit and edible florals. The photos say it all really — insert chef’s kiss right here!

2. The community feel
Everyone feels welcome at Local Crowd! Owners Arun and Davinder Singh have created an atmosphere that’s warm and inviting, with a strong emphasis on customer service. It’s the perfect setting for an impromptu coffee with the mums after school drop, brunch for a special occasion, business lunch or a midweek date. It’s also kid friendly, dog friendly, wheelchair and pram friendly. And for sensitive tummies, gluten-free, dairy- free and vegetarian menu options are available, too.

3. Supporting local
“We have always stayed true to the ‘local’ part of our name by using local suppliers and produce,” says Arun. From the SA- owned Altura Coffee beans to the local wines and beers on rotation — you’ll be supporting far beyond a neighbourhood coffee shop when you visit Local Crowd.
If there’s ever a good time to follow the crowd, it’s now!
