Kangaroo Island is one of those places that is just as magical in the winter as it is in the summer. Its rugged coastlines are belted with howling winds and mighty waves. The scenery is green and luscious and the crisp island air invigorates your soul. There is no better way to enjoy the wonder of Kangaroo Island in winter than to bundle up, find an open fire and revel in all its local produce!

Gutsy is an eating and drinking festival being held on Kangaroo Island over the June long weekend. It’s designed to celebrate the determination and brilliance of the Island’s producers in what is sometimes a challenging environment, as well as showcase the Island’s incredible landscape, wildlife, arts, history and people.

From Friday 7th June to Monday 10th June, a number of events at various KI venues will be offering hearty food, impressive local wines and gins, music, live entertainment and cracking fires. I mean, what more could you want from a winter getaway?! From family friendly experiences to fancy degustations — there’ll be something for everyone at Gutsy. 

Here’s a sneak peak of what’s on offer…

Immerse

Experience the sensory marvel of Immerse at Kangaroo Island Wool where a 360° cinema dome will merge taste, sight, and sound. Delight in five meticulously crafted courses, each echoing the essence of Kangaroo Island. This will be an unforgettable dining adventure.

Cost: $220 per person.

The Shearing Shed

On Friday night, guests are invited to immerse themselves in an evening of country charm at The Shearing Shed. Relish in hearty cuisine, local beverages, and delightful tunes amidst the company of wonderful friends. This event promises to be an unforgettable shindig not to be overlooked! 

Location: Eleanor Downs Farm

Cost: $60 per person.

Gutsy After Party

The Gutsy 2024 Afterparty takes place at the iconic Penneshaw Pub, where guests are invited to enjoy food and drink specials, live entertainment by local favourites Fidel Monk and Pete Dacy, and tastings from Kangaroo Island’s top artisans. Don’t miss this chance to experience the best of Kangaroo Island this June long weekend.

Raise Your Glass Festival

Celebrate Dudley Wines’ 30-year history on Kangaroo Island. Enjoy a special festival menu featuring old favourites like the famous whiting pizza and bucket o’prawns, as well as new winter warmers. Indulge in special wine tastings, live music and firepits, as well as wine and merchandise specials. Families can enjoy breathtaking views and warm vibes. Join for lunch or stay all day. 

Location: Dudley Wines

Cost: Adults $55pp set menu, children $25pp. Walk-ins welcome.

Date: Friday 8th June and Saturday 9th June, 10.30am – 5.00pm

Little Island Encounter

Savour a rustic two-course meal paired with a glass of wine. Join in as the Barrels are set ablaze, and the Springs Road crew invites you to enjoy lawn games and fireside chats after lunch.

Cost: $50 per person.

Date: Saturday 8th June and Sunday 9th June, 12.00pm – 5.00pm

Fawlty Towers

Experience a Kangaroo Island rendition of Fawlty Towers! Enjoy tapas or a three-course meal as you’re entertained by a reenactment of Fawlty Towers and captivating recitals from local poets. Live music by talented local artists will complete the evening.

Nocturnal

The Kangaroo Island Wildlife Network partners with the island’s newest chef, Virginia Jones of Kangaroo Island Providore, to present “Nocturnal.” This collaborative event spotlights the island’s unique wildlife through stunning portraits and showcases its diverse produce in an evening of live music, fine wine and gourmet cuisine. Guests are invited to dress in cocktail attire for a glamorous experience that blends conservation with culinary excellence.

Gin & Tea

At Emu Bay Lavender Farm, indulge in a unique high tea experience featuring tea served with a twist: infused with lavender gin. Enjoy finely cut sandwiches, freshly baked scones with lavender preserve, and an array of exquisite pastries. Surrender to the charm and sophistication of this culinary journey.
