For over 30 years, the former site of Le Cornu has remained unused… until now.

Local property developer Commercial & General is bringing life and energy back to this site on O’Connell Street in North Adelaide. No strangers to evolutionary builds shaping our state, they’re responsible for the 400-bed Calvary Adelaide Hospital and the $500 million Australian Bragg Centre on North Terrace. And now, they’ve turned their attention to Eighty Eight O’Connell.

The location is prime Adelaide real estate, with views to the ocean, city and hills, and is the largest ever project delivered by a private developer in South Australia. The end result will see 158 predominantly owner-occupied apartments spread across three buildings and connected by a 2,000-metre sky deck, with open space and public amenities, including a premium restaurant and bar.

The project comprises three buildings, with the non-residential floors encompassing a range of commercial tenancies: Archer (health, wellbeing, allied health and care services), Centenary (corporate tenants, service offices and amenities) and Tynte (a food and beverage precinct).

In addition to notable local retailers such as Mercato, Eighty Eight O’Connell has attracted interstate brands, recognising the potential to be part of a community-shaping project in Adelaide. The flagship health and wellness amenity within the development will be a future-forward gym offering and the first of its kind in South Australia. It will set a new benchmark for multi-dimensional training coupled with state-of-the-art equipment and spaces to support a healthy body and mind. Locals will have immediate access to personal and group training sessions, yoga, pilates, recovery plunge pools, sauna and steam room.

While the selected operator for the space is still under wraps, Commercial & General Executive Chairman Jamie McClurg attests to the alignment of future-forward brands calling Eighty Eight O’Connell their home. “The alignment with such brands at Eighty Eight is clear — this will be a prestige home to wellness operators for South Australia, with a fully integrated health services wing supporting primary care services such as GP and pathology, alongside allied health offerings.”

Reflecting on why this development had sought such a unique fitness offering, he says, “This was always going to be more than your standard gym. We wanted our residents and the broader Adelaide community to have something industry- leading in the heart of North Adelaide, to support healthy lifestyles and provide a suite of fitness options”.

Two- and three-bedroom apartments are selling fast to buyers wanting generous apartment sizes, luxe finishes and an unbeatable location. The most recent release of their three-bedroom townhouses has also attracted significant interest from people looking for everything Eighty Eight O’Connell and North Adelaide’s surrounds can offer.

Those interested should book an appointment with the Eighty Eight O’Connell sales team to avoid missing out. “Seeing it come to life is just incredible. With 80 percent sold, the interest from the Adelaide community for this project is a testament to the attractiveness of this lifestyle,” says Georgie Taarnby, Sales Director at Eighty Eight O’Connell.

“This project is an evolution for South Australia. It has all the things needed to reshape the heart of North Adelaide and we’re excited to be able to give that back to the community and O’Connell Street for future generations,” says Jamie.
