Hotel Indigo’s in-house restaurant, Market & Meander, has just launched its brand new modern Italian spring summer menu. The Adelady gang were lucky enough to sample it, and let’s just say — our inner nonna’s gave it the grande nod of approval!
Market & Meander’s executive chef, Gabriele Pezzimenti, is originally from Bergamo in Italy’s north, and brings his heritage to the table (so to speak), by putting a modern twist on recipes he’s collected and perfected over the years from his own mother. Combine this with his Michelin training and personal love affair with food and you’ve got the formula for a food coma level of fullness. Well, speaking from experience anyway!
The food itself is vibrant and fresh yet as comforting as a big warm hug. One of the highlights for me was the butternut lasagne. When Gabriele told us this dish was vegan, dairy AND gluten free, I must admit, I didn’t think I’d be allocating it much real estate in my stomach. But holy WOW! I will NEVER judge a dish by its dietaries again!
Another favourite was the Vitello Tonnato, which is veal tenderloin served thinly sliced and topped with tuna mayo, baby capers, pine nuts and with fried flat bread on the side. It was a flavour and texture sensation in our mouths! For the pasta lovers, you can’t go past the Tagliatelle which incorporates clams from Goolwa, prawns, mint and basil chiffonade. Delizioso!
One of the things we love about Market & Meander is that they source their ingredients from local South Australian suppliers wherever possible. We’re talking oysters from Streaky Bay, mussels from Port Lincoln, cheese from the Adelaide Hills and of course plenty of other fresh produce from their neighbours across the road, the Adelaide Central Markets. Supporting SA — now that’s amore!
Now you should be aware, it’s not just the food that Market & Meander can boast about. The decor is an Instagrammers dream! While you dine, you’ll be surrounded by an eclectic mix of textures, shapes and colours that gives off boutique New York hotel vibes. It’s uber cool yet warm and inviting. Check out the pics and you’ll see what I mean…
