The easiest way to enjoy one of SA’s favourite sweet treats, at home!

Time 10 minutes

Serves 6

Ingredients

  • 1 pack of The Little Dough Co. White Rolls (contains 6 rolls)

Filling

  • 300ml thickened cream
  • 250g mascarpone
  • 1tsp vanilla bean paste
  • 2tbsp icing sugar

To assemble

  • ½ cup good-quality strawberry jam
  • 6 maraschino cherries
  • Icing sugar, for dusting

Method

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the thickened cream, mascarpone and vanilla bean paste. Using electric beaters, whip until thick, fluffy and holding soft peaks. Be careful not to overwhip — mascarpone can firm up quickly! Cover and pop in the fridge to chill until ready to use.
  • Using a serrated knife, cut each dinner roll down the centre from the top, stopping just before you slice all the way through (you want to keep a hinge at the base).
  • Gently open each roll like a book and spread a generous spoonful of strawberry jam inside, coating both sides.
  • Pipe or spoon the mascarpone cream into the centre of each bun. Don’t be shy — the cream should puff out beautifully.
  • Place a mascarpone cherry in the centre of each bun, nestled into the cream mixture.
  • Dust generously with icing sugar just before serving
