Around 190,000 Australians are wheelchair users, however many activities and venues do not cater for these people in regards to accessible entrances, services, bathroom facilities… and so on. For so many people with a disability, the importance of being able to integrate mainstream activities into their lives is imperative to their independence, mental health and general quality of life.
Here at Adelady, we are ALL about supporting inclusivity, so when we were asked by members of our community to assist in finding and promoting accessible places to eat, drink, play, stay and experience here in Adelaide, we jumped at the chance to help.
We’ve put together a list of recommendations which were suggested to us by our wonderful Adelady community, but would LOVE to keep growing the list. For this reason, please get in touch if you have any other suggestions or first-hand experiences to add.
Things are slowly improving in regards to inclusivity and accessibility, however there’s still a long way to go.The more awareness, understanding and improvement we can bring to this issue, the better!
