I’m the kind of person who opens a jar of Beerenberg Strawberry Jam and eats it by the spoonful — I don’t even need a scone or toast. It’s simply delicious and the best thing about it: it’s SA made.
You realise just how patriotic you are when you’re holidaying overseas or interstate and your hotel serves little jars of Beerenberg for breakfast. You get a big, warm and fuzzy smile on your face. #SAproud
Sally with her husband, Andrew, walking romantically through the strawberry patch (which she tells me, they never do).
Beerenberg was conceived by Sally’s parents, Grant and Carol Paech, in 1969. Since then, this small family business has grown into a global empire. Now, people (like me) all over the world are also eating Beerenberg jams, sauces and condiments by the spoonful!
After completing a Bachelor of Business (Marketing), Sally took on several marketing contracts across Adelaide, including some time with Beerenberg’s wholesale distribution company. We won’t hold this against her, but she also moved interstate for ten years, to complete her Masters of Social Science.
In 2008, Sally returned to South Australia with her young family. Soon after, she started her role as Marketing Director with Beerenberg, joining her parents and two older brothers in the business.
In 2013, Sally oversaw a very successful rebrand campaign for Beerenberg, introducing more contemporary packaging for the entire range. Thanks to her, I now refer to my favourite condiments by name. “Anthony“, clearly the best tomato sauce AND “Sally“, obviously the perfect apricot jam.
She continues to work on several projects designed to grow Beerenberg into an internationally-loved and recognised Australian luxury brand.
I felt very lucky to score a date with Sally, frolicking in her strawberry fields at Beerenberg Farm. These are her fave places in Adelaide:

FAVE CAFE IN HAHNDORF
Oh no, don’t ask me to name favourites! Let me just say that one of my faves is the Seasonal Garden Café – the food is ridiculously fresh and table-slappingly yummy!
FAVE COFFEE SPOT IN THE ADELAIDE HILLS
So many good ones, but I most often frequent the Stirling Hotel Cellars and Patisserie for coffee. My kids are addicted to the superb ice cream they serve. Bonus bottle shop included!

TIP FOR GETTING STRAWBERRY STAINS OUT
Step 1: Boil kettle.
Step 2: Remove item of clothing from body (strongly advised).
Step 3: Carefully pour boiled water directly over stain.
Voila! Stain washes away immediately. Also works on cherry stains and probably other berries, but I’m a bit strawberry-centric. Also, I’ve never tried it on delicate fabric, so I’m going include a little disclaimer there.
These school holidays, why not pick some delicious strawberries with the family?
