For the last five years, Fred’s crew have been delighting locals and lucky visitors with dining experiences that go beyond expectation – as Todd says, “good service, incredible food and feeling the full force of Fred’s vibrant personality is what we’re all about”.

So, what makes Fred Eatery stand out? It’s a royal flush in our eyes for these fine reasons…

The food

It’s hard to recommend just one dish when this extensive menu is bursting with local produce and delicious options! It’s Modern Australian with a stunning Asian influence, perfect for people like me who love food packed with adventurous fresh flavours.

Pop these on your ‘must-try’ list if you need a starting point…

  1. Indian Eggs – these lightly spiced and scrambled free-range eggs served with roti, roasted cumin yoghurt and eggplant relish will heat up a cold morning.
  2. Avocado & Haloumi Sarnie – my brekky go-to and it’s never disappointed… served with wilted greens, roasted beetroot tapenade and Fred’s tomato sauce — it’s to die for.
  3. Sticky Black Chicken – head east with this incredible yellow Thai curry dressing, coconut and lime leaf rice, Asian greens, pickled carrot and peanut salad, and nahm jim.
  4. Reuben By Fred – this toasted light rye sandwich filled with corned beef, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese and Russian dressing (with delicious bite-sized cornichons on the side) is ridiculously good.
  5. Cloud Gnocchi – need I say more? This heavenly dish of pan-fried gnocchi with green peas, wilted rocket, pear and cherry tomatoes, pine nuts, ricotta, fried capers and pangrattato is a wild ride you have to try.

Caffeine-lovers rejoice, also! The coffee at Fred is perfect every time and you can even get take-home beans to recreate these cups of joy to enjoy in your PJs and slippers.

If you’re looking to spice up a brunch or long-lunch with friends, Fred is licenced so you can pop a little tipple with your meal. It’s easy to kick back and relax with any of the delicious Adelaide Hills wines they have on offer!

The vibe

This surprisingly big space has an intimate feel with dining spread between the front café, the back-dining area that’s filled with natural light, and an upstairs mezzanine, which I always find handy when the kids are in tow.

The guys clearly have an eye for style and it’s not uncommon for customers to ask if they can buy any of the pieces dotted around the café.

Kiddos and four-legged babies are also welcome, with highchairs on hand and little doggy treats for those bringing along little loved ones.

The evolution

The final piece of the pie which sets Fred apart is their ability to continually evolve. Todd and Aaron are passionate about what they’ve created but they’ve also got their eyes set on what else they can add to this incredible place.

Their popular Friday night dinners are the perfect way to wind down your week and are set to return in a couple of months once restrictions settle. Plus, their flare for style has taken on a life of its own, with Fred Living swinging open its doors in the same group of shops in Aldgate… did someone say, ‘homeware shopping’?
