We’ve all heard the saying… if you don’t make time for yourself in your wellness, you’ll be forced to in your illness. It’s an important reminder, but easy to overlook when you’re juggling work, family, kids, friends, endless dinner preparations and all that adult life throws at you!

But looking after the one and only you can be done in a myriad of ways, and with the picturesque Adelaide Hills at our disposal, we’ve found a range that offers something for every budget.

Jump into your car, head up that freeway and embrace that immediate sense of escapism once you pass the tollgate. Then take your pick from these luscious ways to unwind and recharge…

Free loving

Whether you’re conscious of pennies or not, a walk through the magnificent Mount Lofty Botanic Gardens does wonders for the heart and mind and costs nothing! Autumn is particularly spectacular, with a spread of vibrant colours; but winter is magical, spring is bountiful and there’s plenty of shady spots to enjoy the outdoors in summer in this expansive Hills wonderland. Go solo, grab your friends or the whole family for a stroll, a picnic, or even do what Hayley did, and get out the watercolours for some mindful moments drawing what you see. You can even top off your visit with a hot choccie or coffee from the Bracegirdles’ van. There’s only goodness in these gardens and we can’t get enough!

Couple cuddling

Romance is the name of the game when it comes to a rejuvenating with a stay in Lost at Mount Osmond Skyline Retreat. Overlooking the foothills and Adelaide city’s skyline, this sustainably designed retreat will instantly pull you out of the busy day-to-day, and allow you to slow down and just ‘be’. You can relax on the large deck or kick back on the outdoor lounge — however you do it, you’ll find this chance to exhale your stresses totally worthwhile. Take your lover, your bestie or your beautiful self for a retreat you’ll treasure.

Strawberry fields forever

For some, our tastebuds and tummies are our way to wind down. The Beerenberg Family Farm is well worth a visit when you’re looking for a delicious way to let off some steam, particularly if you haven’t seen their gorgeous renovations yet.

From November to April, the strawberries are ripe for the picking and there’s nothing quite like handpicking your own fruit from the picturesque fields before taking your tasty loot home. And if that’s not enough to entice, the farm café offers a delicious all-day menu, filled with ice-cream, sweet treats, waffles and shakes, plus you can catch a cooking demo from their head chef if you time it right, too. Regardless, we guarantee you’ll head back down the hill with rosy cheeks, strawberry-red lips and full hearts after a visit here.

Whole lotta luxury

When you really want to up the relaxation stakes, you’ll be well pressed to find something more luxurious than Longview Day Spa. From the moment you arrive at the heavenly vineyard, you’ll feel the stress dissipate as you indulge in body and facial treatments that will leave you floating on cloud nine. The smells, the sights and the touch in this day spa are all fuelled by locally made Swiss Wellness organic skincare products, and you can even add to the experience with a premium wine and platter or really settle in for a stay in for a cellar door visit, Italian feast (Saturdays and Sundays only) or stay the night in their luxury 4.5-star accommodation. It’s the stuff that dreams are made of!
