Just 35 minutes up the freeway, and worlds away from city life, you’ll find beautiful Woodside.

I bet you didn’t know that this gorgeous country town is packed full of delicious eateries, outstanding wineries and some of the best vineyard views in SA!

The kind people of Woodside are welcoming, passionate and excited for you to visit their beautiful slice of the Adelaide Hills.

There are a million reasons to visit Woodside, but let’s whet the palate with these…

Petaluma Wines

:: 254 Pfeifer Road, Woodside | WEBSITE

Petaluma Wines opened the first ever Cellar door in the Adelaide Hills — at Bridgewater. Forty years later they moved to what is now one of the classiest cellar doors we’ve had the pleasure of visiting!

Set on a hill, overlooking rolling vines and a classic Adelaide hills backdrop, you can sit on the deck and taste Petaluma’s famous Cabernet from Coonawarra, Chardonnay from the Adelaide Hills, and Riesling from Clare Valley.

To get all wine-y on you, all the fruit from these three regions is crushed, vinified, matured and bottled in their state-of-the-art winery in Woodside.

For Petaluma first-timers, we recommend trying one of the wine flights, which are updated every few months. We opted for a Croser Sparkling flight, Chardonnay flight, a Yellow Label flight and the Petaluma Project Co., each paired with a delicious mini tasting plate! If your stomach screams for more, they also do bigger platters full of local Adelaide Hills produce.

I’m definitely no wine connoisseur, I just know what I like — and I liked Petaluma!

Woodside Providore

:: 68 Onkaparinga Valley road, Woodside | WEBSITE

In every country town there’s always a beehive of activity where people come from all over to visit. In Woodside, it’s Woodside Providore. On weekends, this restaurant/cafe/bar is pumping, and why wouldn’t it be? With a sensational breakfast menu and coffee to die for, locals and city slickers love this place!

Woodside Providore is open for lunch daily, and for something extra special on Friday and Saturday nights, they have a mouth-watering dinner menu. The food is fresh, local, and as a self-confessed fake vegetarian, I noticed they have plenty of vego options. For those of you cool-kids who enjoy a raw treat, we recommend their vegan raw snickers cheesecake — yum.

Melba’s Chocolates and Confectionery

:: 22 Henry Street, Woodside | WEBSITE

If, like me, you haven’t visited Melba’s since you were a kid, why the hell not? You’re missing out! It’s still just as magical as it always was and it still warms my heart that we have a giant Willy Wonka-style chocolate factory here in the Adelaide Hills.

Family-owned and operated since forever, Melba’s is now run by Tom. Most of the chocolate is made on site and if you pop in to the factory, you can see it being made, moulded, and wrapped from scratch.

If chocolate is your life, you can Augustus Gloop your way through the factory and try their samples, while sipping on a sweet Melba’s hot chocolate. And if chocolate isn’t your thing, they also have more confectionery than you could dream of. Licorice, Traffic Lights, bulk bags, mixed lollies, Nougat, Rocky Road, giant specialities and bite-sized treats — they have it all!

It’s a family affair at Melba’s, so bring the kids, learn about some of SA’s sweetest history and indulge. They’re a big fan of events, so keep an eye out on their website and socials for their next big shindig.

Chesterfield Whisky Firm

:: 1/20 Henry Street, Woodside | WEBSITE

Chesterfield Whisky Firm brings together two of the greatest — whisky cocktails and giftware. The cute-as-a-button store sits between Melba’s Chocolate Factory and Woodside Cheese Wrights and is all about experiencing something different and exciting.

Their small-batch cocktails have been flavoured with local Adelaide hills produce, so you’re not just supporting them with every sip, you’re helping the region. Oh, and I forgot to mention, tastings are also paired with local cheese and handmade chocolates!

Not only do you get to fall in love with Whisky cocktails (maybe for the first time), but they also have a thing called “Secret Pizza Business”. So, what’s the secret? On Friday and Saturday nights you can order delicious homemade pizzas!

Chesterfield Whisky isn’t just about feeding the stomach, they also have Hommes Uniques Gifts — for gentlemen of all ages. Lock up your husbands, they’ve got super stylish man bags, grooming kits, Star Wars collectables, bar-ware, games and so much more.

Artwine

:: 72 Bird In Hand Road, Woodside | WEBSITE

What we believe to be the prettiest cellar door in the region, Artwine was born over its namesake — a love for art and wine. Since they first opened their gorgeous doors in 2008, they’ve planted over 15 varieties of what is now award winning wine — with 19 awards under their belt so far.

Owner Judy says, “Our architecturally designed Cellar Door — with wheelchair accessibility — has a fully enclosed terrace with captivating views that can be enjoyed all year round. We offer one of the largest ranges of Estate Grown new modern (alternative) wine varieties and traditionals available. We have 15 different varieties that are crafted into 19 wines.”

And here’s the fun part… Cellar Door Tastings!

You can taste a selection of Artwine’s current vintages by doing a group tasting. And what’s wine without food? They also offer a range of tasty platters and smaller plates to complement their wines. And to soak up the gorgeousness of Artwine’s surroundings, you can grab one of their picnic rugs and breathe in the fresh Adelaide Hills air while indulging on the very best the Hills has to offer.

So, put WOODSIDE in your GPS and make a weekend of it, like we did!
