The Ultimate Barossa Vintage Festival Guide

Now that Easter is done and dusted, and you don’t ever want to see another Easter egg again, it’s time to turn your attention to the beautiful Barossa. There’s no better time than to head to the Barossa as the Barossa Vintage Festival kicks off this Wednesday (19 April). The five day Festival is the Festival is the ultimate chance for your to immerse yourself in the Barossan way of life.

This year the Barossa Vintage Festival celebrates its 70th birthday and features over 90 events showcasing arts, music, culture, community and the region’s highly acclaimed food and wine.

Get a bunch of friends together. Roam, explore and seek out the innovators, creators, stylemakers and producers who are showcasing their ‘best’ during the 70th Barossa Vintage Festival. And with over 30 family friendly events, I can’t think of a better way to keep the kids occupied these school holidays – my kids are super excited and can’t wait to get out and about!

Here’s a few of my top picks … hopefully I’ll see you there!

Chook Shed Social Club

What’s not to love about a night that promises ‘unfiltered Barossan hospitality’? An assortment of Barossa beverages, including beer, wine and cocktails, a stellar musical line-up, plus so much more! Word on the street is this is THE party event of the Festival with everything from roulette and table tennis to keep you entertained! A night best spent with your besties where you can boogie on the dance floor ‘til the early hours of the morning. (And in case you were wondering, there will be no live chickens at this event – it’s a tongue in cheek tribute to the old poultry shed in Tanunda!)

Silver Raven Festival

After kicking up your heels and probably indulging in one or two beverages too many at the Chook Shed Social Club (let’s be honest it’s going to be hard not to get caught up in the moment), you’ll be wanting to spend the day chilling out to the epic American-tinged music line up. Turkey Flat Vineyards will provide the perfect backdrop for headliners Strand of Oaks, Jonny Fritz and Henry Wagons & The Only Children. And it’s a true Barossa experience when it comes to food and beverages, you’ll be spoilt with choice from Turkey Flat, Pirate Life, Are you Game?, Forage Supply Co and Barossa Valley Ice Cream. Guaranteed to be a great day out, get a bunch of friends together or take the kids along for a great day out!

Feast, Folk and Fossick

Dubbed the official wrap party of the Festival, Feast, Folk and Fossick is the ultimate recovery session – just sit back, relax and appreciate everything that’s on offer. With a wide selection of beverages from across the region, a maze of quirky stallholders, a car boot sale and vintage displays there’s so many paths to choose from, and of course a huge range of Barossa food and beverages. For me, the highlight of this event has to be the jaw dropping handcrafted BBQ structure made entirely of recycled materials. Grand pit master, Pete Little of Harvest Kitchen will man the BBQ overnight and will serve up some of the Barossa’s finest beasts, cooked long and slow. Ignite your senses and reward your tastebuds it’s going to be a cracker of a family day out!

The Festival Garden

One to take the kiddies to! The Festival Garden at Yalumba is a picturesque location that comes alive with activity and excitement during the Barossa Vintage Festival. There’s so many activities to keep the little ones occupied while you kick back on the lawn. It’s a relaxing day of regional feasting, fine wines and family fun. And for the first time ever the Festival Garden becomes a twilight affair, grab the family and head to Yalumba for dinner under the stars.
