If you’ve ever been on Instagram, or any blog for that matter, you’ve probably seen some pretty OTT baby showers being thrown — whether it’s your favourite insta mum, that friend of a friend from Sydney, or the WAG you love to stalk on social media, everyone seems to be doing it. From balloon installations to extravagant themes, it appears you need Kardashian kind of money to pull one of these events off.

Lucky for you, we had a chat to new mum Alyse from Adelaide styling and events collective The Stylist’s Guide, who has given us her 5 top tips to styling your baby shower, that won’t break the budget.

1. Make it memorable

Baby showers are becoming more and more popular, and while most people enjoy them, sometimes they can fall into being a little boring. Think about what is going to make your baby shower stand out from those you’ve seen online; what will your guests take away from it? Often focusing on the finer details will create a lasting impression with your guests and leave them saying WOW.

2. Find a venue that suits YOU!

Whether you’re having 5 or 50 people at your baby shower, it’s important to find a venue that suits you. Whether it’s indoors, outdoors, at home, the pub or a function centre, find a location that fits your personality and style. When it comes to styling, stay true to the venue and your vision, be it rustic, modern, boho, or colourful!

3. To be traditional or un-traditional?

Are you someone that isn’t overly traditional, but would like to keep some family traditions as part of your event? Choose your favourite traditions and give them a modern touch. This could include the kinds of food on your menu (hellooooo Nan’s apple pie), the party favours you choose to include or not include, and the type of décor you choose — whether it be flowers, family ornaments or your favourite coloured balloons.

4. Colour scheme

Boy? Girl? Don’t want anyone to know? Pick a colour scheme that is gender neutral, or simply use your favourite colour palette. This can be featured through styling elements such as your centrepieces, flowers, napkins or stationary. If you really want to throw a baby shower that people will never forget, really mix it up and use traditional blue tones for a girl, or warmer tones for a boy!

5. Create a photo opportunity

We love to create a photo op for any event, be it an OTT centrepiece, a table setting that turns heads, use of a colourful palette or even a custom backdrop, really think about what people are going to enjoy taking photos of — after all, most of the photos will be uploaded to the ‘gram!
