12004018_10153558119114534_3860310302173361836_nBree May is best known for being crowned champion of Channel Seven’s “My Kitchen Rules”.

Since winning the title in 2014, Bree has continued to follow her food dream through catering, freelance writing and recipe development, guest appearances, live cooking demonstrations and event hosting. We also get to enjoy her amazing recipes through her food blog and website, foodaccordingtobree.com. Oh and she has a range of hand-crafted ketchups. (I could drink this stuff by the bottle – delicious!)

Bree loves supporting charities close to her heart and is an official ambassador for The Longest Table — a cancer research fundraising initiative of The Hospital Research Foundation. She also works with OzHarvest, The Big Issue and Ronald McDonald House charities.

Bree May’s energy is infectious. Just meet her and you’ll soon understand what I mean. She’s a yummy mummy of two young girls and loves nothing more than spending time with her family in South Australia, writing, travelling, volunteering, creating recipes and of course, cooking up a storm in the kitchen!

And for those reasons, this week, she’s our Inspirational Adelady. These are her fave places in Adelaide:

FAVE PLACE TO HAVE A DRINK (OR TWO)

Being a mum with two crazy kids, usually my favourite place to have a drink is at home in my bathrobe… Am I right, ladies?! But, being a huge fan of wine, and blessedly living next to the Adelaide Hills and McLaren Vale, either of these gorgeous destinations are also at the top of my list. Whiling away a Saturday or Sunday arvo in a fabulous South Australian cellar door. Yes, please.

FAVE HAIRDRESSER

Sadly due to genetics and motherhood, if I don’t maintain my hair I’ll be a salt and pepper shaker. I’ve been a regular at Yots in Hyde Park for a few years now and I don’t know what I’d do without them. It’s my monthly essential luxury. I totally love getting treatments too — head massage bliss!

My hairdresser, Monica, is so freakin’ amazing! I actually just let her do whatever she wants and I always leave with the perfect colour. Plus she never gets chop happy when I need a trim. Love you babe, NEVER leave me!!

FAVE DESSERT BAR

I’m not a huge sweet tooth, so dessert bars aren’t something I usually frequent. But, I can always appreciate a spectacular bakery — does this count?

I’m a resolute fan of a great pie and (oddly, considering I’m such a carnivore) I’m always on the hunt for an amazing vegetarian pasty or pastry roll. My absolute, all-time favourite is the Pumpkin, Spinach and Chickpea Roll from The Village Baker. I’m actually salivating right now at the thought!

FAVE PLACE FOR A CHEAP MEAL

I’m going to say Adelaide Central Market. I absolutely love Asian street food and I love it even more when it’s dirt cheap. It doesn’t matter what I’ve got a hankering for – laksa, dumplings, pho. I can get a really delicious feed for less than a tenner in either of the food courts, or my favourite Chinatown restaurants.

And, my latest obsession is the Pierogi man inside the market. His beef and rice are seriously scrumptious and only $4 a pop (yippee!) My only tip: get there early because they’re at their peak when they come straight out of the fryer. Deeee-lish!

FAVE PLACE TO SHOP

This will probably come as no surprise, but my favourite shop to visit is Creative Cooks in Melrose Park. I get stuck in there for ages and always leave with more stuff than I went in there for. I also totally love Flourish on King William Road. They have the best unique gifts, homewares and interesting cookbooks.

I’m also a mad keen cookbook collector (I’ve got hundreds) and I have found some of my all-time vintage faves in op shops. Don’t be surprised if you see me trawling the book section in a Salvo’s store near you.

FAVE PLACE FOR A WEEKEND GETAWAY

My house. I’m actually a total homebody, so when I get the chance to, I shut myself away in my kitchen baking and preserving, or on the couch watching movie marathons with my family for the entire weekend. If I have no cause to leave the house, I’ll likely not even get changed out of my PJs until after midday… Hmmm, maybe shouldn’t admit that?
