A couple of years ago, we found ourselves at the Angove Family Winemakers + St Agnes Distillery in the Riverland. Flash forward to 2019, and we’re back with the beautiful Angove crew, this time exploring their McLaren Vale cellar door.

What a sight for sore eyes! As soon as we walked through the doors, we were hit with stunning views across the vineyards. We’d timed our visit for mid-Autumn which meant that everything had turned 50 shades of orange, and for once, the rain actually helped make those views even better.

The back of the cellar door is made up of HUGE glass doors and windows that all open out onto the decking area, making it the perfect spot to sit and soak in the views when we start to head into the warmer months.

The cellar door has been recently transformed into a space that oozes cosiness and warmth. Next to the bar you’ll find armchairs and lounges in front of a fireplace, so you can get toasty warm while deciding on which tasting flight you’d like to sample. If you’re looking for something slightly more formal, there are also plenty of round tables and bar tables to fit larger groups.

Now let’s take a step back for a second — did somebody say tasting flights? There are a couple of different options to choose from, so we did what any sensible adult would do and chose one each so we could share! We went for the “Icons Wine Flight” — which is made up of five outstanding reds, and the “Favourites Wine Flight” — which walks you through the range from white to red. My favourite part is that you can choose to have your wine flights accompanied by either a chocolate tasting featuring Four Winds Chocolate, or a cheese tasting. Can you hear us singing “these are a few of our favourite things….”?

If you’re feeling like you might need something a bit more substantial, Angove also offers a few different platters that are loaded with local produce, such as antipasto and cheese.

If you happen to be passing through and feel like stopping for a more simplified tasting or a single glass of wine, you’ll be delighted to find the entire Angove Family Winemakers range ready to be sampled straight from their new Enomatic machine. The Enomatic machine keeps the wines perfectly fresh and at the exact right temperate without the waste — plus, it looks really cool and high tech, which is an added bonus.

It’s no secret that we love Richard and the rest of the Angove family. It was hard to drag ourselves away from your warm and cosy cellar door, and we’ll definitely be back for the wine AND those views.
