Lions and sharks and koalas, oh my!

Would you like to swim with seals on Kangaroo Island? Or would you prefer to spot pelicans on the Coorong? What about a wildlife safari with a Lions 360 encounter at Monarto? Or maybe feeding fairy penguins is more your style?

Whatever your animal instinct, we’re so lucky because South Australia has some of the world’s best wildlife encounters! From the Eyre Peninsula to the Limestone Coast and everywhere between, there are once- in-a-lifetime animal experiences that you’ll never forget.

The island

KI Wildlife Park is making dreams come true left, right and centre, offering all the animal experiences you could wish for. With over 600 animals at the park and 150 species of native Australian wildlife, KI Wildlife Park is home to koalas, penguins, kangaroos, reptiles and plenty of wild and wonderful birdlife. And you don’t have to admire from afar — they have holding experiences where you can cuddle a koala or hold a snake if you dare. KI Wildlife Park has been rescuing and raising the island’s injured and orphaned animals for years — doesn’t that warm the cockles of your heart!

The land

Monarto and the Adelaide Zoo have so many incredible experiences that will get your heart pumping and eyes smiling — just try and name a better zoo! Whether it’s a Giraffe Safari, Cheetah Experience, Meet the Rhinos Encounter, Meerkat Mingle or Keeper for a Day experience, you can be at one with these wild and wonderful animals. Some experiences even combine two of our favourite things — lions and wine! You get to travel in luxury in a private helicopter over the Adelaide Hills and land in the heart of Monarto Zoo where you’ll enjoy Australia’s only 360 degree lion encounter and a delicious five-course menu, paired with wine at The Lane Vineyard.

Monarto and Adelaide Zoo are both not-for-profit, so everytime you book an animal encounter, your money goes back into the conservation and care of these incredible creatures.

The sea

Imagine splashing in the ocean like a dolphin swimming in a pod. Wouldn’t that be insane? Temptation Sailing has added a brand new Front Swim Experience where dolphin lovers can lie down in a secure net and experience wild dolphins at an arm’s length as they playfully swim with their pod. You’ll also learn about these magical creatures from Temptation’s marine biologists who are there to educate and assist you throughout the whole experience.
