PUCKER UP BUTTERCUP!
Well ladies, spring is almost here — cue the group cheer! This means that the sun is shining, spring races are coming and colour is making a comeback in the trees, our fashion and our makeup! It’s time to change up some of those winter nudes and deep lip tones for something a bit more bright and fun!
Lip colour is such a personal thing, some people feel totally comfortable to be daring in a racy shade of red, while others like to opt for soft pinks and beiges. Believe me when I say that everyone CAN wear a red lipstick, it’s just a matter of finding a red tone that suits you and wearing it in a way you feel comfortable.
There are many different formulas of lip colour as well as a variety of ways in which to apply them. Do you like a bold matte lip colour that makes a statement or something a little more creamy and sheer?
Have you tried applying your favourite lipstick colour and blotting it with a tissue to create more of a lip stained look? I also find that with the more bold tones that a lip liner helps to keep the lipstick on as well as giving it a more clean and polished look.
A slick of lip gloss on top of lipstick can also be fun. It not only adds shine to the lip but you can layer various shades of gloss on top of any lipstick to change up the colour slightly. While I find it best to match your lipliner as close to your lip colour as possible (gone are the days of dark brown liner with pale lipstick!!) the same rule doesn’t apply for glosses.
Now there are SO MANY lip colours out there and most women are on the search for a great natural everyday lipstick.
The way to choose the best one for you is to look at your lips without any colour on them and pick a shade that is very close to your natural lip colour. If it looks ashy then you have chosen a colour that is too light when your lips actually have more natural pigment to them. The right shade should enhance your natural lip colour and skin tone and will be a perfect lipstick for you to slap on as you are running out the door with barely any other makeup on!
So as the weather gets warmer, and we are becoming more adventurous with colour, I thought I would introduce you to a range of fab (and affordable) lipsticks from Sportsgirl!
If you haven’t made it into your local Sportsgirl store lately you’re missing out on a huge range of lipstick colours, new beauty products and an array of great spring-summer nail polish colours.
Coming in both matte and creamy formulas you can pick up a Pout About It lipstick for $9.95! At that price why wouldn’t you grab a few to play with for the spring season?
These are the 7 Sportsgirl Pout About It lipsticks that I’ve chosen as some of my favourite colours for spring.
So let the fun begin! Which one is your favourite?
Okay, so in Spring we still like some nude tones especially if we are going for more on the eyes. This colour is BOHO — a new creamy lip colour at Sportsgirl that’s a soft nude yet still enough colour that I can wear it without a lot of other makeup. A soft fresh look.
Let’s get TROPO!!! Love this coral colour for spring/summer! A matte lipstick, perfect for when we all get a little sun kissed.
Who’s the QUEEN BEE? This is certainly a bright pink and has spring written all over it! I’m not usually a mad pink girl but this colour is F-U-N! Matte and long lasting, am loving this colour.
I love me some WATERMELON as the weather gets warmer! This new lip colour is creamy, vibrant and a perfect mix of pink and coral — YUM!
The name ORANGE CRUSH just brings me back to summer days at primary school eating Nippys ice-blocks! (anyone remember those??!) A true orange colour in a matte formula… Summer written all over it!
Prince isn’t the only one who can wear purple. It may not be grape bubble gum but this is HUBBA BUBBA in a lipstick! A creamy formula and a more daring tone for spring!
Gotta have a red lip colour in your drawer for all seasons and ALMOST FAMOUS is the perfect red for the warmer months. More of an orange/red, this matte colour is bold, bright and one of my favourites!!
