We ALWAYS want to be feeling our best, so whenever we’re run down, we turn to Elixir.

It’s no longer just about slapping on some moisturiser and praying for perfect skin. The art of self-care has expanded to mean that great skin stems from your overall wellness.

Our skin goddess and friend, Rose Bonasera from Elixir Skin Fitness, is passionate about getting the best out of your skin and improving your life while she’s at it.

“There are nine pillars of wellness that contribute to your overall health, and it goes beyond skin deep! We bring your skin to life with internal and external support; and the treatments we offer complement what you’re doing at home to become the most vibrant version of yourself.”

We asked Rose for an explanation of these magic pillars and some of the treatments Elixir offers to make you glow.

EXERCISE

We are designed to move! Exercise stimulates blood flow, lymphatic drainage and helps remove toxins from the body, which supports treatment plans for acne, inflammation and healthy ageing.

MINDFULNESS

Mindfulness is a bit of a buzz word at the moment, but it’s so important and can be found in the ten minutes you run through your skincare routine. It only takes three seconds without oxygen for our cells to start dying, so breathing deeply helps your body to absorb nutrients and stimulates the lymphatic system, helping to clear your body of toxins.

GUT HEALTH

It’s important to consider that your diet, lifestyle and genes all affect your microbiome and immune system, which in turn, impacts your skin and other organs, including your brain. Don’t muck around with your gut health!

NUTRITION

Remind your brain that it’s all about nourishing the body with food. We recommend different meal plans and suggest things like removing inflammatory foods or incorporating wholefoods, depending on your skin conditions.

SLEEP

Focusing on natural sleep wave patterns encourages growth and tissue repair. Your skin creates collagen while you sleep, which prevents skin from sagging; while sleep deprivation can make it dull, lifeless and accelerate ageing. No one wants that!

HYDRATION

I recommend a minimum of two to three litres of water daily to keep your skin and body healthy. Water hydrates the skin, which is a major organ; assists the digestive system; and makes skin cells plump and juicy, while flushing pores of any nasties.

SKIN TREATMENTS

Our holistic approach encourages the skin to behave as a healthy organ. Detoxification, elimination, collagen induction, rebuilding, repairing and anti- inflammatory are the fundamentals on which we create a tailored approach.

LIFESTYLE

Stress can have a huge impact on skin, especially with inflammatory conditions, so it’s important to find something to centre yourself. High stress levels are also linked to leaky gut, disruption in hormone levels and immunity, which is then linked to acne and inflammation.

HORMONES AND IMMUNITY

If your immune system or hormones are out of balance, you increase your risk of chronic inflammation, which can result in ageing skin, acne, rosacea, eczema and perioral dermatitis.
