The bygone days of your local social club are back!

Calling all eighties babies — remember the social clubs of years ago? These versatile spaces were made for everything from birthday celebrations to corporate events, even weddings or a bite to eat on a lazy Sunday afternoon, with plenty of space for kids to run around in a safe environment. The Victoria Park Social Club gives you a modern take on these traditional community gathering spots — with great food, excellent wines, cocktails and a family-friendly vibe.

You’ll find this hub in the heritage listed Bookmakers League Building at Victoria Park Racecourse, which has been meticulously restored and is set for nothing but good times. Owner of La Dolce Vita Catering, Rob Paglia took over the historic venue to create a flexible space that appeals to all ages. He seriously knows food, and the team uses premium local ingredients to serve up dishes that are designed to share.

“Our main inspiration was the social clubs from our childhoods. We wanted to create a modern-day, versatile space where you can have a casual or black-tie wedding, wine dinners, themed nights or just a Sunday afternoon drinks session. Nothing’s over the top — it’s just a great place to be social,” Rob says.

The line-up

Given the adaptable nature of the venue, we recommend booking or checking their socials, but Thursdays to Sundays need to be on your radar. Thursday nights are ideal for feeding the whole family, especially hungry kids after sport or school activities — say ciao to Pizza Night, with continuous pizza, antipasto and salad, gelati for the kids and $10 Aperol Spritz or $10 corkage per bottle of vino.

When not booked for a wedding or function, Friday and Saturday nights serve up pizza, pasta and a revolving specials board. And Sundays bring back the casual hangs when it opens up to the public from midday, but we suggest making a booking so you can get your fix of pizza, pasta, barbecue bites, drink specials, bocce and a DJ — sounds pretty perfect!

If you’re throwing a wedding, big birthday bash or corporate event, this is an incredible space in the heart of Adelaide that can cater for up to 300 guests, which is hard to come by. Vic Park Social Club’s also the place to catch some of your favourite regional vinos, with wine dinners during the year, alongside plenty of themed events across the calendar — keep across their socials so you don’t miss out!

When you next feel the pangs of nostalgia for some quality community vibes, grab your crew and get all kinds of connected at the Victoria Park Social Club.
