Oh Jim Barry, you won our hearts with your wine, and now you’ve given our souls a place to unwind, too!

It’s no secret that Clare is a catch and one of the best destinations to road trip and discover exceptional Rieslings. So imagine the pure joy when we discovered that one of our fave wine producers had spread their wings and created not one, but two superb accommodations in the region!

Jim Barry Boutique Accommodation is the mastermind behind two of Clare’s shining stars — The Mill Apartments and the latest addition, Mill St. Retreat. Both sit just a stone’s throw from beautiful cellar doors, eateries and shops. If you can’t choose which is the perfect getaway for you, you could eeny-meeny-miny-moe it and we know you’ll be happy no matter where you end up!

The Mill Apartments

Located on the northern side of the main street in Clare, The Mill Apartments offer a relaxing and secluded place to base yourself in the Clare Valley. Here, you’ll find four one-bedroom apartments and two two-bedroom apartments — so whether you’re riding solo or spending a weekend with fam and friends, you’ll feel right at home. Each apartment includes a living and dining area, self-contained kitchen, bathroom with a soothing rain shower and full size bath, brekky provisions and even a bottle of Jim Barry vino to kick-start your stay in wine country.

Mill St. Retreat

Think Palm Springs vibes in SA’s renowned wine region, and you’ve got the brand new Mill St. Retreat. The four one-bedroom apartments are uniquely decorated to complement the mid-century modern architecture; and while they each have their own twist, they all have one thing in common — absolute comfort and luxury.

With a complete kitchen facility and dining area, private deck, barbecue, modern bathroom, breakfast provisions, office space and private off-street parking, these apartments are suited to corporate travellers, couples or larger groups wishing to stay close together.

Wine, forever

This foray into accommodation is a big step for the Barry family, but never fear — they’re still proudly creating wines for all to enjoy! One of their latest ventures has tickled us pink — literally — as they’ve teamed up with the McGrath Foundation to create a special Rosé, raising funds for McGrath Breast Care Nurses.

The strong connection to this cause comes from third-generation winemaker Tom Barry’s wife, Olivia Hoffmann-Barry. Olivia’s father was a breast cancer surgeon for 35 years, and her mother, Anne Marie, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2020. “Our family has actively fundraised for breast cancer charities for years, but Mum’s diagnosis made us think about how to raise money for thousands of Australian families navigating breast cancer by doing what we do so well every day — and that’s wine,” says Olivia.

Based on their popular Cabernet Sauvignon (The Cover Drive), the Rosé showcases a striking pink-striped capsule and label featuring a female cricketer — a fitting label for the McGrath Foundation. You can support the cause and sip this sentimental wine by purchasing a bottle from Dan Murphy’s or online.

The next time you’re planning a Clare trip just two hours out of Adelaide, we can’t think of a reason not to give yourself a luxury stay and support a beautiful family- owned business at the same time!

Here’s a little bonus for anyone looking to book a getaway! Jim Barry Boutique Accommodation is offering a 15 percent discount on Mill St. Retreat bookings for anyone who uses the code Adelady1 between now and March 2023.
