Shiny, feathery, fabulous — Priscilla Queen of the Desert is one hot night out!

To say I’m a Priscilla fan is an understatement… I loved the movie, belted out my little tone-deaf lungs to every hit over the years, and even got my Peaches & Herb on by dancing to Shake Your Groove Thing for my wedding dance.

Heading to the Festival Centre to see this iconic musical debut in Adelaide for its 10th anniversary, I was PUMPED… but a wee bit nervous that it may not live up to my steadfast memories of such a joyous film. It did. An’ then some!

It’s no carbon copy of the film and will keep even die-hard fans on the edge of their seats. Sure, musical theatre can be an acquired taste but if you’re up for an unforgettable night, full of feathers, frivolity and fabulousness, get your butt to this musical stat!

Electric vibes

Before the curtain is even raised, the neon map and gigantic hot pink lippie hint at the glamorous, effervescent fun that’s about to erupt on stage. The curtain lifts and from the first beat, the lights beam, the music gets deep down into your soul, and some truly talented actors take you on an incredible journey about love, self-discovery and acceptance.

Based on the Oscar-winning film, Simon Phillips’ jaw-dropping production wows! Unsurprisingly, this Aussie sensation has scooped an array of international awards on Broadway, the West End, Europe and Asia.

The buzz

Priscilla’s an all-encompassing adventure, with every player that enters the stage sucking you in. But the three main characters — Bernadette, Tick and Felicia are exceptional.

I instantly forgot any worries or responsibilities waiting in the real world and was bang up for boarding the battered old bus heading from the bright lights of Sydney to Alice Springs.

Needless to say, my dream day would involve slipping in to just ONE of the 500 award-winning costumes or 200 headresses. My eyes were popping, my feet were tapping. It was all glamour, sequins and sass — and I found myself squealing with delight at every infectious dance-floor classic, seamless segue, and impossible costume change.

It doesn’t matter whether you’re straight, gay or somewhere in between. This is raw, soul exploding fun sprinkled with some pretty powerful reminders about embracing each other for being exactly who we are. Quirks and all.

So, if you so much as cracked a smile in the movie, are keen to get your groove on, or are tempted to give the theeeeeeeatre a whirl, get yourself to Priscilla Queen of the Desert… betcha bottom dollar you’ll LOVE it! Book your tickets HERE.
