We LOVE a good news story! When we were contacted by the lovely Kat to tell us about The Peregrine Store in Gumeracha, we were keen as mustard. So, we headed for the hills to check it out for ourselves and when we met the owner, Jess, Kat’s enthusiasm all made sense.

This beautiful little store in the picturesque Hills is filled with unique products, made by local artisans and craftsmen, as well as from small businesses around the world. It’s a quirky mix of things that will stir up nostalgia and make you excited about spending time with loved ones out in nature.

When Jess, her husband and their little people moved to the Adelaide Hills from NSW to support Jess’s parents, The Peregrine Store came to life as a place for Jess to bring the community together, and make some new friends — we all know how hard it can be to meet new, like-minded people once you’ve reached adulthood!

There was no knowing what was in store for them over the next couple of months — from the bushfires through to COVID 19, both of which forced her to close the doors on her gorgeous new business for a period of time.

She’s back with a vengeance though, and dedicated to offering special pieces to the local community, as well as those just passing through on a day trip. The brands and collections that Jess stocks have a common theme — they all remind your of your childhood, of nature, and embracing your memories. It’s all about getting back to basics with an exquisite range of homewares, gifts, toys and more, all with a distinct country-chic vibe.

If picnicking is your passion, you’ll love all the carefully crafted and authentic accessories like the wine glass holders from Winestains in the Barossa, along with the range of outdoor crockery and rugs. It’s all delightful, and makes us want to set up camp on a beach, watching the sun go down and forgetting all our troubles — and that’s just what Jess is aiming for, with a strong focus on mindfulness and mental health too.

Because we’re total shopaholics, we’ve sussed out some of our fave brands that you just can’t walk past…

Pony Rider — for gorgeous throws, towels, cushions and accessories.

The Society Inc —  for unique bespoke hardware.

Mimosa Botanicals — for exquisite luxury bath soaks, small batch apothecary and pure plant based perfumery made from nature’s best ingredients.

Etikette Candles — for delighful hand-crafted candles inspired by some our favourite spots in SA, made by two very clever local gals.

So, next time you’re looking for something a little different, take a leisurely drive to Gumeracha and visit Jess at The Peregrine Store.
