When you think of the Riverland, there are few obvious things that come to mind — face planting while learning to waterski, cruising in a houseboat and going into full fangirl mode when the Murray Princess comes past, taking 14,687 pics of the sunrise bouncing off of the orange cliffs, wild long weekends with your mates and memorable summer holidays with your fam.
It’s only recently that I’ve been lucky enough to explore a little more of everything that the Riverland has to offer, and I’ve fallen in love all over again… this time, with the wine!
Everyone knows about the Barossa and McLaren Vale and the beautiful wine they produce, BUT I bet you didn’t know that over half of the South Australian wine that we drink actually comes from grapes in the Riverland! The largest winery produces as much as 200,000 tonnes each year, and overall the region produces 400,000 tonnes annually. Boom, how’s that for some fast facts?
The Riverland is home to some of the best wine, fresh produce and amazing food, so next time you’re cruising through the region make sure to pull up this list and visit one (or ten) of these venues. Some of these amazing wineries don’t have a cellar door so memorise their names and look out for them in your local bottle-o! We promise you won’t be disappointed!
