As a self-proclaimed book enthusiast, I think I might have died and gone to heaven. Mockingbird Lounge is the ultimate celebration of books, that makes you feel like you’re actually in a fairytale — or at least, like you’ve stepped back in time.

As you walk through the door, you might initially think you’ve stepped into a café with a bookshelf covering one wall. Head a little deeper and you’ll starting winding and twisting your way around the hallways, surrounded completely by second hand books everywhere you look. There are breakout rooms — also lined with books — and this is where you’ll find different groups of people, each there for their own reason.

There are the book clubs, a whopping 54 of them with a range of ages all taking part. Each month they get together to receive their new book, and to chat about the novel they’ve just read — with a beverage of choice of course.

There’s the knitting classes that happen on a Wednesday evening in the hidden back room. It might be an older skill, but it’s a good one to have! This might be a good time to mention that everyone I know will be getting a hand knitted scarf for Christmas this year…

There are also creative writing workshops, crochet classes and high teas on offer, and of course there are the people that are just there to enjoy a cup of tea and a homemade sweet treat with their book, or have a quiet catch up with friends.

If books aren’t your thing, there are plenty of other draw cards, like local art, unique gift cards, keep cups, stationery and more.

Walking into the Mockingbird Lounge gives you a warm feeling, like you’ve been teleported to another world. So next time you need the perfect hideaway, head along and visit Stacey’s world of books…
