O.M.G! I can’t even begin to explain what an amazing experience I had in this restaurant, nestled right in the heart of the city! But I will do my best…
Think traditional, old school, ‘Nonna-style’ Italian restaurant…
From the minute you walk into Borsa, you know you’ve made the right choice. You’re immediately greeted by the incredible aroma coming from the kitchen, which is open and visible from all around the restaurant. You can see the fresh pasta hanging from the wooden racks and the chef flipping sauce in a pan to create memories for her customers.
For me, you judge an Italian restaurant on the strength of its pasta, and based on the merits of the Rigatoni Con Polpette, complete with veal and pork slow cooked meatballs braised in tomato and veal ragu (drool), Borsa earns a place on the list of best Italian in South Australia.
So, let’s talk about the menu!
We ordered the Tagliatelle Con Saliscce in Bianco (homemade pork sausage, basil and chilli in an olive oil base), the Spaghetti Vongole (Coffin Bay Cockles with garlic in an olive oil base) and the Rigatoni Con Polpette (Veal & Pork Meatballs braised in tomato & veal ragu).
The texture of the pasta was perfect, chewy, and soft but firm all at the same time — basically the definition of al-dente. The Tagliatelle Con Saliscce in Bianco was full of flavour and the sausage meat was so tender and melted in your mouth. The Vongole was tossed in olive oil and full of flavour – exactly what you’re looking for when eating a Vongole dish.
The service was great, the team really go above and beyond to make sure you’re happy. They serve you with home-made freshly baked bread and olive oil to get your taste buds going and then create the perfect pasta meal from their kitchen straight to your soul!
Highly recommend that you try this place — and tell them Adelady sent you!
You can find Borsa Pasta Cucina at 1/25 Grenfell Street, Adelaide (underneath the black stump building on Grenfell).
