Sprawling grounds, a charming house, alpacas in the backyard, and a perfect party pad makes White Hill Estate one of our top picks for your next special event.
Located smack bang in McLaren Vale and surrounded by some of our fave players in the wine game (hellooooo Mollydooker and Coriole!), White Hill Estate creates a stunning backdrop to your big day, whatever it might be! Especially popular for weddings, this venue has been customised to be everything that you need AND MORE. The best part? The party people that are passing through get to make the estate their home for the entire weekend — with accommodation, ceremony, and reception all in the same place!
Owned by the Oliver family for decades, Jodie Oliver-Baxter grew up in the original homestead as a kid. Now run by Jodie and her husband Ben, they’ve been sure to keep the property’s integrity and history perfectly intact. The house was first built in the 1840s and has remained in the family ever since, with new generations cycling through and building their life there.
The house is huge — sleeping up to 16 people and making it perfect for a large group, like a wedding party. The ground floor includes a large kitchen and living area, and a long hallway that opens straight out to a paddock filled with alpacas and sheep. We hear this door has been walked through by maaaany brides that are on their way to say “I do”.
The grounds are perfectly manicured and a stunning backdrop for an event. One of the highlights is the dam that sits under an alcove of gum trees. The space is designed for a wedding ceremony to take place, with guests standing on a slightly sloped hill so everyone can get a peek at the happy couple.
The Shed is a rustic building that used to be part of the original stables, but now operates as a party venue! Inside, it’s essentially a blank space, making it easy for different groups to customise it to suit their style. Jodie and Ben have all the essentials on hand (tables, chairs, cutlery, crockery, lights… the list goes on) but are super flexible, so if there’s a certain style you prefer, you’re welcome to organise it. The same goes for your catering, florists, drinks and more — you’re encouraged to take White Hill’s beauty and add to it with your own personal vibes!
If you’re on the hunt for an event or wedding venue, we highly recommend having a chat with the lovely Jodie and Ben. It’s also important to note that the Oliver family has been hosting weddings at White Hill Estate since the first official wedding in 1877, so it’s safe to say they absolutely know what they’re doing.
