Growing up in the Adelaide Hills, I get an unqualified but real sense of pride every time we discover a new gem in the area. Cobb’s Hills Estate is the latest treasure and it’s truly the bee’s knees!

This enchanting venue is a winery, cellar door and the most delightful boutique B&B all rolled in to one. Tucked away in leafy Oakbank, you arrive here and instantly feel relaxed — surrounded by gorgeous gardens and over 250 acres of vineyards.

Combining the things he personally enjoys, Nigel has transformed this destination into a welcoming space for all to enjoy, without losing the sense of intimacy that comes with a country homestead.

It’s the ideal setting in any time of year to taste and savour Cobbs’ Hill premium cool climate wines from any of their ten vineyards, boasting Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir and Shiraz vines, as well as gourmet platters filled with seasonal local goodies.

In Autumn, you’ll be taken aback with canopies of colour — perfect for strolling through the gardens or along the creek.

In Winter, it’s warm and cosy, made for sipping wine at the bar or in the lounge. There’s blossoms galore as Spring rolls around and days are made for chilled games of petanque on the lawn, and Summer is perfect for kicking back on the veranda or picnicking in the shade of the 100 year old oak tree by the lake.

A little getaway in the B&B will give you the rejuvenation of staying in your own country estate. It’s like a mini house, with three bedrooms, a relaxing spa bath and a kitchenette with top notch appliances and all the provisions for a continental brekky. Plus, guests are treated like royalty, with complimentary wine and a welcome basket.

But the thing that makes it unique? Despite the vast property, a visit to Cobb’s Hill feels like you’ve rolled into your BFFs home. And this is exactly what Owner, Nigel Vinecombe, recognised, buying the property when it was actually a house.

We were lucky enough to celebrate Lauren’s 30th here! As we soaked up the last of the Autumn sunshine, I couldn’t help glancing at the lake to see if Toad, Ratty or Mole appeared in a tiny little rowing boat on the lake that looks like something out of Wind In The Willows.

We love Cobb’s Hill Estate for its uncomplicated charm and the down to earth staff who welcome you with open arms. Highly recommend a visit or a stay… and if you do spot any Wind In The Willows characters, please drop me a line… I’m convinced they’re around!
