When family come from interstate — I celebrate! And the best way I know how is by jumping in the car and going winery-hopping through the Adelaide Hills. First stop on said winery-hopping-tour was to the Mt Lofty Ranges Vineyard. It was our first visit here and we were more than impressed.
The Mount Lofty Ranges Vineyard is a sustainable winery hidden away between the trees in Lenswood. Think green, warm and comforting. Inside this boutique cellar door you’ll find a variety of wines to taste, with a impressive food menu to match. You can either stand up and taste their beautiful wines around the open fire or wine and dine in their restaurant area, looking out onto the stunning view. The wines at Mount Lofty Vineyards are of top notch quality.
Even though we decided to visit on a super busy long weekend, we were welcomed with open arms by the friendly staff. We hadn’t made a booking but were invited to sit on the deck. It was a bit chilly so we grabbed a blanket from the “snuggle rugs box”, sat outside and soaked in the magnificent view. If you’re lucky, you might see a kangaroo or two bouncing on past.
We started off slowly with a bottle of Pinot Noir Rose. Fresh & crisp, the bottle was gone in no time. To go with our bottle we had the most extravagant cheese platter! With a variety of Udder Delights cheeses, quince paste, caper berries, cured meats, pickled onions, olives, crackers and fresh fruit, it was the perfect meal!
We didn’t stay for mains but I’ve heard the 8 hour slow braised Fleurieu lamb rump has got my name written all over it. As does everything on their ever changing specials board and dessert menu.
You can find the Mt Lofty Ranges Vineyard cellar door at 166 Harris Road, Lenswood.
