If you’ve been down to Aldinga in recent months, you may have been greeted with a stack of road works and a few tractors. However they have cleared for now and Old Coach Road is now renovated and looking schmic as ever for Friday nights.

If you haven’t been before, Fridays After Five is a community event, held in the laneway and communal space between Maxwell’s Grocery and Homegrain Bakery. Every Friday night, rain or shine, you will find the space decked out with festoon and fairy lights, picnic tables, rugs and throws, creating a mini festival vibe to hang out in.

This event is very family friendly, with a dedicated area for kids to run around on and a bouncing castle for them to burn off all their energy. While their doing that the big kids can sip on a few local bevvys – expect to see wines from Big Easy Radio and beers from local suppliers like Shifty Lizard.

As always there will a killer line-up of food trucks and catering on hand- think Fleurieu favourites Mullygrub Truck, Chimmichuri Grill and El Choto Paella Catering just to name a few. Maxwell’s will be dishing out there famous burgers using Wakefield Grange Beef and the bakery will be feeding you up with the best pies and donuts getting around. Just a short stroll away is The Shack Café and Pizzeria, where you’ll find delicious pizzas and top notch fish and chips. Across the road, Rosey’s Café will have their doors open, where you can hoof down their exceptional platters and delicious dinners. Fall From Grace will also be opening for trade, where you can have a dabble in some delicious wines from South Australia and abroad (that’s where you’ll find me once the belly is full and the sun’s gone down).

To keep you occupied you’ll be greeted with plenty of acoustic tunes and musical talent – Elli Belle and Hey Harriett are kicking things off on opening night, and there have been plenty of other fabulous acts to follow. If you love to dabble in a bit of shopping (hide the credit card), then wander the stalls filled with locally made wares and items for sale.

If you’re looking for somewhere to hang out on a Friday night then get the crew together and head down to Fridays. It’s well worth the drive if you’re not from the South.

You can find Fridays after Five every Friday night, 5-9pm, in the laneway/carpark between Homegrain Bakery and Maxwells Grocery, Old Coach Road, Aldinga.
