Today I did something that I haven’t done for years — I got crafty! And it made me remember just how much I enjoy it!

For those who haven’t heard of The Makery Co., it’s a delightfully bright and happy place in Hahndorf that facilitates all sorts of creative workshops. They have the friendliest team of staff to help guide you through the whole process, and you’ll end up with your very own masterpiece to take home with you at the end of your session!

Here at Adelady, we really vibe hard with everything The Makery Co. is about, so under the guise of a ‘team building exercise’ we decided to book in as a group for the Festive Wreaths Workshop. (Great excuse, right)?! It was such a fun, colourful morning where we were all able to let loose and allow our personalities to unravel in the form of a unique handmade Christmas wreath!

There are two types of wreath styles to choose from when you book your workshop — Native Wreaths or Colour Bomb Wreaths. Both options are absolutely stunning, but being that Adelady was founded by two gals that literally fart rainbows, we were always going to go for the Colour Bomb option. No surprises there!

We arrived to see a spot set up at the crafting table for each of us, with a variety of brightly coloured dried and preserved blooms already set out beautifully. Each place setting had a different colour palate of florals in a basket and we all sat down in front of the one that we felt drawn to.

Ellie and her team then gave us a ‘Wreath 101’ lesson explaining the different ways you can arrange the florals and professional tips on how to make it all come together into the masterpieces we left the workshop with. Once you’ve arranged the main decor of your wreath, you can then add some feature items like baubles, ribbons or larger fancy blooms. This is when the magic really happens!

It was so much fun watching all our different personalities get to work — the ones that overthink every single addition versus the ones that just throw it all on willy-nilly and hope for the best. I must say though, regardless of your crafting style — you really can’t go wrong. The staff are so skilled in helping you make your wreath look visually balanced in both colour and texture. We all left feeling so proud of our creations and excited to put them on display!

The Makery Co. offers all sorts of creative workshops, and leading up to Christmas there are a few other festive themed options for you to choose from:

Christmas Stockings

Paint and create your very own Christmas stocking. Whether you choose traditional Christmas colours and patterns or go completely rogue with a modern twist — you’ll have something truly personal and unique to put on display.

Christmas Nutcracker

What could be more fitting than painting your very own Christmas Nutcracker soldier in the heart of German Hahndorf?! You’ll receive a primed wooden soldier (approx 18cm tall), paint supplies, a range of decorations and professional tools to bring your little fella to life! What a great talking point for the mantlepiece.

Baubles & Bubbles

In this festive experience, you’ll have the opportunity to paint two glass baubles to add to your Christmas decor collection, or perhaps give as a unique gift for someone special. The baubles are 12cm in diameter and have space to place a battery operated tealight candle inside to create a magical glow from within. A choice of beautiful ribbons are also available to hang your precious creations. You’ll receive all of this as part of the workshop.

We highly recommend you check out the ever changing workshops that The Makery Co. has on offer. You’re welcome to bring your own food and drinks to enjoy alongside the experience (and perhaps help to get your creative juices flowing). What an incredible experience to share with a bestie, a family member, your girl gang or as a team of workmates. Or another option — purchase a gift card and give someone else the gift of rediscovering their creativity!
