rebecca morse; adelaideWe’re so lucky that we get to see this beautiful, clever, intelligent gem on our TV screens every weeknight, on Channel Ten News. We feel extra special because we know Rebecca Morse as a friend and she’s commonly known to us as Morsey or Morse-Dawg. She’s one of the funniest, quick-witted girls you’ll ever meet. Hilarious in fact. She should have her own stand-up show at Rhino Room! What you can’t see on the TV is that she’s a magnificent mum of three gorgeous girls, Grace, Milla and Frankie, and wife to the hunky, broad-shouldered James. This multi-tasking queen has just added another feather to her bow, now writing a weekly column for The Messenger.

She’s an Adelaide girl through and through, and these are some of her favourite things about our wonderful city!

1. FAVE PLACE TO DRINK

My House

On the couch, in my trackies once the kids are in bed. But the cool kids at work sometimes take me to the hip new spots and I have been super-impressed by all of them. I love La Moka, behind a cheerful yellow door in the super cool laneway that is Peel St.

Love catching up with my Adeladies here, over a coffee or cocktail, or both, and a platter of Italian goodness. (They do not actually serve breastmilk, Hayley BYOed on this occasion).

2. FAVE PLACE TO EAT

Joe’s Kiosk, Henley Beach

You will find my family here most weekends. But don’t let that put you off. There are no acai bowls or smashed avocado on the menu here, just old fashioned breakfast fry-ups to cure the strongest of hangovers. (As a vego I go the tomato and cheese Turkish) The coffee is so strong that if you ask for a double shot you’ll hit the roof, but while you’re there you can check out the photos of Joe’s loyal, regulars, who’ve become like family over the years. Joe’s is perfect for kids. There are lollipops on offer and you can keep an eye on them while they run out the sugar-high on the beach. The seaside view is hard to beat and if you’re lucky it’s sometimes enhanced by a football team’s recovery session.

3. FAVE PLACE TO SHOP

Adelaide’s East End

I love Bauhaus, Council of Objects and One Rundle for gifts and homewares and you may spot my drool stains on the window at Zimmermann, Saba, Gorman and Tigerlily. I always extend the fashion journey to include the SA success story that is BNKR at the start of the Mall. Then there’s East End Flower Market which has the Instamafia in a frenzy with Justine’s affordable arrangements and photogenic shopfront.

Aaaand if you’ll indulge me in a quick, shameless plug, Colonel Light Books at 542 Goodwood Road Daw Park is my Dad’s shop! Go say hi to Greg and browse through his secondhand book collection. I gave him a Nespresso machine if you’re feeling like a coffee but I don’t think he knows how to use it.

4. FAVE BEACH

Henley

SA is blessed with some of the best beaches in the world, but my favourite is Henley Beach, our local. We are so lucky to live within walking distance of the beach are here almost daily in summer. In fact we have even named our dog Henley. This gets embarrassing when you’re calling his name on the beach and people are thinking “Yup, we know where we are, thanks crazy lady.”

5. FAVE PLACE FOR A WEEKEND GETAWAY

Goolwa

We are lucky enough to have friends with a holiday house on the river which we regularly invite ourselves to and plan to get some keys cut at some stage when they’re not looking. Said friends also have a boat, which makes them REALLY good, lifelong friends.
