We’ve discovered a whole new way to explore the Adelaide Hills, and the best part? It makes us feel like we’re part of a Harry Potter movie!

We managed to score a 10/10 day for travelling through our beautiful state, which we were grateful for as we stood on the train platform with our trunks* waiting for the Highlander Train to pick us up for our day trip to Strathalbyn.

*by trunks, we mean our Blue Scarab handbags and some abandoned luggage we found trackside

The SteamRanger Heritage Railway is a not-for-profit organisation that works to restore and maintain the old trains, before sending them all over the Adelaide Hills and down to the Fleurieu Peninsula.

You’ve got a couple of different options to choose from when it comes to your travel destinations — you can take the Highlander for a day trip to Strathalbyn like us, or you can grab the fam and make your way down to Victor Harbor on the The Southern Encounter!

We aren’t lying when we say that we had NO IDEA that you could do this in the Adelaide Hills. It’s a completely different thing to do with the kids, especially if they’re a fan of Harry Potter or Thomas The Tank Engine (which is pretty much every kid ever!)

The hills are alive everyone, so make the most of it and EXPLORE!
