So Spring is in the air finally (or is it??) and we are finally getting a teaser of the balmy weather to come. Days without jackets, swapping boots for sandals, jeans for dresses, instead of that second coffee opting for a refreshing boost juice to perk you up, and soaking up as much of the afternoon’s rays as possible instead of rushing home to trackies, uggs and a glass of red!

So as we transition from winter to the warmer and, let’s face it, BETTER parts of the year, what are some of the key beauty changes we need to make and items we should have in our bags for Spring? I’m here to help all of you beautiful Adeladies get your beauty regimes in order to set you up for Summer!

1: REASSESS YOUR SKINCARE

Our skin condition changes all the time (see one of my earlier posts titled “Tips on how to make your skin type glow) whether it be stress, lack of sleep, a big night on the vino or weather condtions, our skin can go from shabby to radiant almost overnight! Often in winter my skin feels a lot drier, needing that extra hydration and TLC and in summer I can opt for lighter moisturisers, a change in cleansers and treatment products. Despite having your favourites, your skincare products should be assessed ALL THE TIME! We don’t want to eat the same foods day in and day out, throughout every season do we?? So your skin doesn’t want to be fed the same products 365 days a year either. If you need help to understand your skins needs and wants have a read of my previous blogs and go visit some of the skincare specialists at your favourite salon or at places like Mecca etc as they will be able to help you understand your skin and recommend products accordingly.

2: TAN IT UP

Showing a little more skin in Spring can be a little daunting when coming out of the chills of winter! We feel more like Casper the Ghost than a bronzed goddess ready to run across the shore Baywatch style and sometimes faking it till we make it is the way to go (it’s even the way to go in summer instead of staying out and baking ourselves silly!) I don’t often use fake tan on my body as I am naturally quite olive but I always find I need to use a face tan. I always keep my face out of the sun and therefore end up being super tanned on my body and pale as a ghost on my face! There’s such variety out there today and you can pick up some great products at your local Priceline or pharmacy. Just be careful with some face/body tans when using them on your face as whilst they give you good colour, they can be a little rich for your skin at times and cause you to breakout (yep happened to me!) Some of my favourites for a natural looking tan are the Le Tan products and also Bondi Sands (both available at Priceline). Another brand to look at is James Read Tan available at Mecca Cosmetica and he does a great range of face tanning products as well as body tans, masks, mists and balms. A little more pricey but worth it in my opinion.

3: FOUNDATION SHADE AND FORMULA

So just as we need to reassess our skincare in change of season, we need to look at our foundation products too. As our skin tone changes we need to look at the shades of foundation/tinted moisturiser we are using because if it is too light from winter it can make as look ashy in spring/summer. When our skin condition changes we need to look at foundation formula too and can often opt for a lighter, less rich option for the warmer seasons. This might not be the case for everyone, but tinted moisturisers and oil free foundations may be the better option over balms and rich, hydrating foundations. I am a big fan of the dewy look and never want mine or my clients foundation to look caked on or like a mask. I love the “glow and so if you find your skin is dehydrated or dry in summer then clearly you still need that more hydrating foundation product. I am a firm believer in getting this right because if you choose the wrong formula or foundation shade everything else that follows will not work.

I always have a few staple beauty products in my handbag and again they can sometimes change from season to season! Here’s a list of a few of my faves to get you by this Spring…

A bright lippy!!

Its time to get a bit of colour back into our lives and what better way than a pop of colour on the lips. A bright lipstick can easily transform your makeup from day to night, if you’re heading to the bar for a few after work knock offs. Some of my faves are the liquid lipsticks as they apply like a gloss and dry matte, so they will last through cocktails with minimal touch ups needed. Check out Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipsticks and the new Nars Power-Matte Lip Pigment.

Under eye concealer

A must in my makeup bag as an easy way to cover up those dark circles on the go! Concealing under the eye instantly makes us look more awake and fresh which is how we want to look not only in Spring but all year round, right? Urban Decay Naked Skin concealer is one of my faves as it gives great coverage as well as Bobbi Brown Instant Full Cover Concealer and even Maybelline Fit Me Concealer for a cheaper option.

Blush

Always a fan of blush, I think a pop of colour on the cheeks is so pretty as opposed to just bronzer which can sometimes look very flat and muddy. Even if you apply blush first thing in the morning, it is one of the first things that fades as the day goes on, so have a little travel brush handy and your favourite colour stashed in your purse. Pinks and corals are always fun for Spring, and go hand in hand with the same tone of lipstick. Check out my previous blog, “The right blush for your skin” to help you find the shade perfect for you.
