We don’t want to ruffle any feathers by letting this duck out of the bag but there’s a pub in the foothills that cannot be kept a secret any longer. The Duck is located in the heart of Coromandel Valley and has been pleasing the Hills’ locals for decades.

With a little reno, their deck is looking sharp and is the perfect place to sit and soak up that winter sun while enjoying a tipple or a nibble with your friends. If you’re cold-blooded like me, then you can always beeline to their toasty fireplace and cosy up on their couches for the arvo.

So what can you nibble?

If you’re just after a light feed, we highly recommend their sharing plate with all sorts of tasty treats like Herb Cauliflower Popcorn, Salt and Vinegar Eggplant, Japanese Karaage Chicken, Togarashi Spiced Squid and delicious dips. But if you’re up for a good meal to warm your soul, their Adelaide Hills menu offers all your traditional pub and restaurant classics like Chicken Schnitzels, Halloumi and Beetroot burgers and of course, their namesake — duck! The Crispy Skin Duck Breast with duck fat potatoes, golden beets, king brown mushroom, leek purée, chard and a cherry jus reduction is delightful!

They also serve up quality Asian inspired dishes too, with plenty of vegetarian options. The Korean Bowl comes three ways — with Roasted Pork Belly, Teriyaki Chicken, or with Crispy Herb Crumbed Cauliflower!

For the sweet-toothed Adeladies, the Ultimate Sundae is the best $15 you’ll ever spend. With house-made vanilla ice cream, salted caramel popcorn, double chocolate brownies, crushed peanuts, chocolate fudge and Persian fairy floss on top — it’s the perfect sugar rush!

And what can you tipple?

All meals go perfectly with their extensive wine list, which features a number of local boutique wineries, some you may not have even heard of. Apart from wine, they also love their spirits. You can try The Duck Whisky Flight which comes with house-made Jerky, or their colourful Gin Flights featuring all your fave gins — including the brand new 23rd St Distillery Violet Gin!

Happy Hour at The Duck is Monday – Friday 4pm – 6pm, and Saturday and Sunday 2pm – 6pm and includes:

$9.70 imperial pints
$7.50 SA pints
$6 SA schooners
$1 off wine by the glass
$4 off bottles of wine
Lois Sparkling $7.5 glass
Bird in Hand $10 glass
Premium Gin $11 – includes Gin Factory

Oh, and The Duck says yes to dogs!

Yes, this pub is pet-friendly so you can bring your dog and they can chill on the deck with you in the sun.

So now we’ve let the ‘duck’ out of the bag, go and see it for yourself!
