Rosie Roberts is the lead singer of Adelaide’s super cool indie folk pop band, Axe and the Ivory. The four-piece is powered by Rosie on vocals, Ben Lovell on guitar, Charlie Worthington on drums and James Lovell on percussion.
They won an Arts SA recording grant, to assist with the release of their LP. Since then, they’ve appeared at Gorgeous Festival, where they supported Blue King Brown, the John Butler Trio and Eskimo Joe and are already gaining interest from the overseas market.
Oh and it’s important to know that the drummer is super hot. (He may or may not be my brother-in-law, but there’s no bias here!)
They launch their single “Deadweight” on Friday 25th of September at The Wheatsheaf Hotel. They’re also playing an acoustic show at The Grace Emily, Wednesday 7th of October.
If you’re into Daughter, Ben Howard, Band of Horses and The Lumineers, you’ll love Axe and the Ivory too. Rosie’s voice is AMAZING — she’ll make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up and rock out!
Today, Rosie is our Inspirational Adelady. Here are her fave places in Adelaide:

FAVE PLACE TO SHOP
Definitely Winston Music for instruments. I’m a bit biased here because my awesome brother, Jordan, works there. I just put a busking amp on lay-by and can’t wait to use it around the city with Benny, Jimi and Charlie.

For gifts or homewares, my favourites are Oscar + Willow on King William Road and a Trip to the Moon on the Parade. For clothing, I’m always at Attitudes Boutique at the Bay. I love their clothes and it’s close to home, so a trip to the grocery store often results in a new pair of jeans.

2. FAVE PLACE TO PLAY A LIVE SHOW
That’s a tough question! Can I have two? The Wheatsheaf in Thebarton is probably a favourite of our band. The atmosphere there is pretty special. It’s definitely my favourite place to play and watch bands. Next would be The Grace Emily. Such friendly bar staff and it feels like you’re playing in your lounge room, which is perfect for me because I get really nervous about performing — weird, I know!

3. FAVE PLACE FOR BREAKFAST
Grind It at the Bay is definitely my favourite breakfast place. Rhys and I go there most Sundays. The staff are absolutely delightful! Their pesto eggs and Reuben are the best. Although my Jewish grandmother would probably disown me if she knew I thought their deli sandwich was better than hers.
4. FAVE DESSERT BAR
I don’t know if I have a favourite dessert bar, but I’ve recently found a favourite dessert. We had dinner at Hispanic Mechanic in Frewville last week and their Venezuelan flourless corn cake with goats milk caramel and whipped cream is ridiculously good. Yum!

5. FAVE PLACE TO HAVE A DRINK
Cantina Sociale on Sturt Street has a really nice atmosphere, as do all the bars in and around Peel Street and Leigh Street. Great for afterwork drinks and catching the tram home. But I have to say, being a country girl, I love good pubs and good beer the most. For that, The Wheatie is the place for me.
