Has anyone else been in the middle of a day’s work and suddenly thought to themselves, “I can’t believe people actually pay me for this — I feel like such a fraud!”

We get that. EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.

But it wasn’t until we were part of a creative business retreat called “Illuminate“, that we realised we weren’t the only ones with this dirty little secret.

There we were, fourteen “frauds” having dinner, and talking about “business”.  There were a few fraud photographers, a couple of fraud artists, a makeup artist (also fraud) and a lovely homeware shop owner – definite fraud.

Now, let me explain… obviously, we aren’t frauds in the traditional sense. We’re not into criminal activity or anything (we just heard a collective sigh of relief from our clients around the state).

We’ve all come from a similar place of being unhappy in our previous jobs, and have chosen to either go out on our own, or made the decision to lead with our hearts and do what makes us happy.

And as the old saying goes, “the sweet isn’t as sweet without the sour”, so I’m glad we (and everyone else at that dinner table) have experienced what it’s like to hate going to work. Otherwise, we may not be able to revel in our delicious fraudness like we do.

Here’s something you probably don’t know about us… a while ago, Lauren got to a point in her life where she wished that she’d have a small car accident on her way in to work — only minor, but enough so she could have a day off. Isn’t that insane?? That’s how stressed-out-of-her mind she was at the time.

The scariest part? Lauren wasn’t the only one at that table who had experienced that exact same thought.

Life is WAY too short to work somewhere that makes you feel like you’re in the depths of despair. We chose to do something that would make us happy — Adelady. We never could have guessed that our pineapple would become as powerful as it has. We go to work each day and love what we do. We’re massive frauds!

But the truth is — being a fraud is the best indication that you’re in the right job. So, next time when you’re standing at work thinking, “OMG why are people paying me to do this?”

Stand a little taller and know that YOU are the best flippin’ imposter in the Universe. And keep that job for as long as you can… or at least until you’re ready for your next fraud adventure.
